I read yer blog everyday DG and enjoy the wide selection of topics, even bus stops in Bow. And the Blogroll has put me onto other interesting blogs.. that have put me onto other interesting blogs. Keep up the grand work, Cheers Tufty
How many blogs do you read on a regular basis - say two to three times a week, DG? Is that more or fewer than a couple of years ago?
I read over 50 blogs on a regular basis, but less than half of those now publish as frequently as "two to three times a week".
"Why bother writing anything, quite frankly, when nobody has time for anything more than swiftly digestible visual nuggets?"

Because there are a number of us readers who prefer intelligent comment and interesting articles on a diverse range of topics. I've visited all sorts of interesting places in London as a result of reading this blog. Long may it continue!
Well said Abe; thanks for the response DG.
I think there is a difference between the pre-internet generation and the post-internet generation, obviously the pre-internet generation by definition know what existed before, remember when there were queues at public telephones, the novelty of colour telly, the different broadcast quality when they had sport from abroad, the wonder of the VCR, renting videos etc.

Post-internet very few buy a paper/magazine, all this 'modern stuff' is normal, I'm surprised about the amount of information they share.

All people usually choose the easier option, because that's what people do, they usually want it now rather than later - rather than plan for it, the internet means stuff can be done now, want a recipe?, none of this faffing about with books, I can watch a video of someone cooking it, no more looking around shops for that rare recording, I can listen to it now - by definition is now actually rare (having said all this it was nice to find Six English Towns on YouTube, proper telly).

Perhaps many of us live materially comfortable lives, but are left feeling that its all a bit pointless.
This is the only blog i read, and I look at it every day.

Especially as I recently had en entire post dedicated to me.
I found your blog via a blogroll a few years ago. Can't even remember who's blog I was reading to be honest but I definitely visit yours daily dg!
It's a struggle for a new blogger (that's me) to find readers if one doesn't do social media (me again). In roughly a year I have posted 374 times on a diverse range of subjects. Perhaps I am too generalist but readers elude me.
I read about three blogs daily, one of which is dg and another Christopher Fowler, found via dg.

Well, for several years, a link to you has been listed on the homepage of one of my pre-blog era websites - in a sidebar on the left. Here we are www.eppingweather.co.uk
All very Dreamweaver, all rather dated I'm afraid.
I resumed personal blogging in February, after a gap of about 12 years (although I have been writing a work-related blog in the meantime since 2008).
I started off thinking I would write short pieces with lots of links to other stuff, but I realised that it is better for slightly longer articles, which is what I use it for now. I'm aiming for a modest target of at least two posts a month.
I do, however, have a blogroll, and it does include DG.

Perhaps I should self-advertise

blogs are so...yesterday. it all about vlogs nowadays. get with the times and stop moaning
I dropped in a couple of months ago, and stayed, and have recommended you to others.
The only other "blogger" I follow is Samuel Pepys. http://www.pepysdiary.com/
DG- I found you a couple years ago in an article about the London UndergrounD..and you are the only blog I read. In 1964 I visited London for the first time. I fell in love with it and the Tube, and have been back a dozen times since. Due to age related problems I'll never get back..you are my link to the place. Thank you for the pleasure of vicariously visiting every day.
I've moved as many blogs as possible over to my Bloglovin.com account since it's so much easier to have all my favourite blogs' entries as a feed that I check at least three times a week. Your site has 105 followers through bloglovin, btw. I keep my eye out for new blogs through bloglovin's suggestions (not terribly accurate on making useful suggestions at the moment), the blogs joined by other bloglovin members who I bump into if we both 'save' the same blog post, favourite blog's blog rolls and the comments sections of the blogs themselves. Through all of this, I still have the most success in finding interesting blogs through the blog rolls, though. Sometimes older ways *are* better ways.
I'm pleased to say that I have no interest at all in the lightweight largely pointless fluff that's posted in either Twitter or Facebook. Blogs on the other hand are full of interesting stuff.

Keep up the good work Mr DG
Cheers everyone!

And Charles, your 'blog with a blogroll' has been added to the list :)
Not so easy posting pictures or maps in a vlog though is it....*rolls eyes*
yes I look at facebook and twitter, they're amusing (sometimes) but rarely contain anything of deeper interest ... I thoroughly enjoy reading your daily output DG, it's food for the brain ... yes I follow a few other blogs none of which have quite the frequency and variety of output as yours (although DG if you ever fancy a dose of Scottish island life I'd recommend Life at the End of the Road)
I suspect it was only ever a small number of people who ever used blogrolls. Watching people use websites, usual behaviour is to skip almost everything other than the main content of the page - even site navigation can sometimes be barely used.

That's also why websites have stripped away a lot of stuff from the page design - when you look at the data, it's simply getting rid of things people don't use.
DG;

Your blog has been represented on my blogsite page for years, and yet I do not see my blog title listed.

Have I in some way offended?

Shall it be crossed keyboards at dawn?

Occasionally visit still, but as my interests steer me towards politics, I have become more inclined towards other political blogs.
Hi Mike

You may think it a conspiracy theory, but in truth there isn't a magic "Find all the blogs which link to diamond geezer" button, so it's extremely easy to overlook people, especially those who rarely visit.

You're on the list now, cheers.
I keep on blogging and I find a spike in my readership when I link to a post on Facebook - I preferred to keep my blogging life and my personal friendship a bit separate, but a friend accidentally outed me and I relaxed my views. I still have the same number of regular readers as I ever did, pretty well, but the number of comments has dropped off hugely.

You're right about blogrolls, I mean to get around to updating mine to focus on those who are actually still blogging. Two blogfriends have died, but I can't bear to remove them.
