Water supply to public taps doesn't have a good history in London, as I am sure you know.
|
Gosh.

Would be lovely to have some drinking water fountains in London. We do seem to be lacking.
Although I like the Parisians provision of public drinking water fountains, I have never liked their running of water down street gutters. Supposed to keep dust down and clean but I have only seen it used in France. I think I would go for the non carbonated water the less CO2 we produce the better. |
... but I still have to supply my own whiskey.

For water in street gutters, visit Cambridge!

I expect a DG taste test on supermarket cheap bottled sparkling water 20p for 2 litres

Place de la Concorde itself is on the rive droite, of course..
Paris's first public water fountains were gifted by an Englishman and are still in use - the elegant fontaines Wallace |
The new Bridge Theatre by Tower Bridge has water fountains for still or sparkling in the foyer - you don't even need to be seeing a show to use them!

@John
"the less CO2 we produce the better. " Doesn't that depend on where it is coming from? Most of the CO2 used in fizzy drinks is a byproduct of fermentation processes, mainly in the brewing industry, and would otherwise just be vented to the atmosphere anyway. Re DG's last sentence. I'd rather not drink piddly water anyway! |
Truro used to have water running in the gutters. When I was last there the feed sluices and weirs were still extant, but no flow in the streets.

There are water fountains in London, Hammersmith bus station has one, and I spotted one at a London Terminus recently (Charing Cross I think). The Hammersmith one even sells TfL branded bottles!
