Prior to the revamp of St Pancras the tube entrance at St Pancras was inside the staton shed down some steps roughly where the Carlucciios restaurant patio sits currently..
In a funny kind of way, I kind of miss the old Kings Cross of the late '80s, a transient zone of diesel fumes, ripped fly posters, squats, faded grandeur, ladies of the road and assorted smackheads and rogues. My best mate at the time lived near Essex Road, and his cousin lived in Somers Town so I got to know the area pretty well.
Was that 'smile' tunnel originally used for something else (like trains), it always seemed unnecessarily big for pedestrians.

To be fair, Rob has written a much better post about the 50th anniversary

(and reproached you in the third paragraph)
Apparently "Canal" appears on a sticker as the signs all originally said "Regent's Park" instead.
I recall the Kings Cross area in the 1950s, it was a slum/industrial area best avoided.

A couple of years ago I was on a private tour of the current station. What you can see as a passenger seems huge, but there are several levels below of largely unused chambers, and was informed it takes a whole shift to go round them all.

I can only assume it is intended for government use when armageddon arrives.
Uncanny. Last week I was trying to track down a copy of the Tom Eckersley "Cut traveling time" Victoria Line poster that I missed out on buying 20 years ago.
Connections paragraph, isn’t it down the stairs from the Victoria Line to the Northern and Piccadilly lines?

dg writes: Updated thanks.
@mclm - No it isnt stairs to both. DG was right. Its stairs down to the Piccadilly then from this level its an escalator down to the Northern.

dg writes: No, mlcm was right. I'd written up instead of down.
@dg aha!
Um, surely the longest walk from roundel-sign entrance to platform is South Ken, from the Science Museum entrance through the subway to the Piccadilly platforms? I've not timed it, but I've done both...
Eurostar also now has direct services to Amsterdam.
"The tube doesn't go to Sheffield!"
"must've changed at Kings Cross."
Unexpectedly, the photo of the inflatable pandas is already in my Top 30 Most Viewed Flickr Photos Ever.
