Just a glimpse of the handsome deco frontage of the former Fox leather goods shop - another case of a landmark business that was admired much more than it was patronised.
Thanks for a interesting summary of the City area I frequent most often. |
Is the brutalist extension to the Chartered Accountants’ building in the ward? It’s something of a contrast to the rest, and is worth a look if people are in the area.

It’s non descript feel makes it ideal for filming. I’m aware of this area doubling as New York, Chicago, Paris, Berlin, Tokyo as well as a dystopian intergalactic city.

I used to walk down here every day on my way to work. I was surprised you didn't mention the Armourers Hall at the north end of Coleman Street which is a beautiful building both inside and out. It's a shame they didn't rebuild St Stephen's after the war, it had stood there for 600 years.

That lighthouse is great - will look out for it next time I'm in the area.

You have indeed made it interesting, thank you. The Colemanstreet.org history page has some terrific links and I will now have a muck better informed wander around on Saturday, following a visit to the Guildhall Gallery.

Me too. I walked colman St. To work (for twenty years Bank to Ropemaker St) It's quieter than Moorgate and nothing ever happened there except cyclists going the wrong way.

As a member of the Coleman Street Ward Club, I was very pleased that you've finally been able to take a tour of my - admittedly architecturally/culturally underwhelming ward!
