it looks like the future of Victoria Park is down to the 100 or so of us who bothered to fill in a questionnaire You do have a touching faith in local bureaucracy and democracy.

Interesting info, though. I'll see when I can fit in the London Bridge arches.

If only the local vandals would leave the sculptures on the Burdett-Coutts fountain alone. Perhaps they don't like representational art?

"Many argued that the working classes wouldn't use or respect such elegant open air utilities as a bathing pond, a carriage drive and a bandstand, but they were proved wrong."

260 years later they are being proved right!

Very witty, cjcjc. Maybe because of a tiny minority of vandals we should close the park and turn it into a retail site instead?? And shouldn't that be 160 years later?

Is the Burdett-Coutts fountain the structure pictured? The one with the world's muscliest babies/cerubs around it? I always think they are hilarious when I visit.

I hope they don't muck about with the fabulous (1960s?) multistory paddling pool in the big playground near the deer. That's where the kids and I spend much of our summer holidays slipping on the algae and splashing about in the murky water. Loads of fun.

Hope the plans include some more toilets on the eastern side of the park.

I love Victoria Park, and go there as often as I can when the weather is clement. The Inn on the Park is a great pub, just off the main road that runs through the middle of the park at the Hackney end. I'm going to be down by the Park on Wednesday, I'll probably be supping one in there Nice summer BBQs too....

Of course you mean the VP Roadshow was moved round from Idea Store to Idea Store, don't you, DG? Perhaps this is the true function of Idea Stores- get rid of all those dusty books and consult the people.
By the way, have you been back to Clapton Pond lately? A VP makeover in miniature.

I've never been to Victoria Park myself, but I do think London's parks and green spaces are a gem. I'm just hoping that those people who seem to like defacing old Victoriana in the name of 'progress' don't get their hands on them.

It's a good thing that residents are being consulted on their views for the future of Victoria Park, though whether Tower Hamlets council will listen is, of course, another matter.

Do either of the new plans restore the lido that was turned into a carpark in the late 70s?

I've fond memories of being taken to Victoria Park by my grandparents when I was about 5 or 6.

Good to hear that some money is going to be spent on it.
