For cyclists, this provides a new North South route away from the crowds. Riding south from the main road crossing near the copper box, carry on straight over the bridge to the island. Then take the slope to the right. You can follow the path all the way back to the Lea Navigation near Old Ford Lock.
On a visit to the park earlier this week I was tempted into the West Ham shop by the "Sale" signs and discovered very few items are actually in the sale, but there was a very nice holdall reduced to a reasonable price that I have purchased, a rare find in a shop where 99% of the goods on sale are way overpriced for what they are.
Thank you, Mr Pooter.
Regarding security, although I've had no problems and do see them doing their rounds, I am more reluctant now to pass through the Olympic Park in the late evening due to having read of a spate of robberies "in and around the park" around Christmas. Hopefully they have stepped up patrols accordingly.
On my recent visit I was given at least 2 pieces of inaccurate information....finding these out by traipsing around the park wore me out so I didn't complete my visit as planned. Seems to me stuff is going on without anyone taking responsibility for keeping all key people informed. I should have checked DG blog instead!
Any idea when the bell will actually be rung? There's a lot of machinery up inside it which I find very intriguing...
Bad news on the Olympic Bell...

This is from the London Legacy Development Corporation last year:

At the time the planning application for the installation of the Olympic Bell was made in May 2015, it was anticipated that the Bell would be operational on occasions. It has however now been determined that the Olympic Bell will not be operational at any time.

The bell has the lowest tone in the world - a sound that can be heard for miles - so will never toll again due to concerns it's so loud it would disturb residents living nearby.

Shame.
"Olympic Bell, cast oversize in Whitechapel" ...me thinks the casting took place in the Netherlands?
I wonder if anyone will ever persuade QEOP to replace their terrible maps with legible london ones.
Has a buyer been found for the Whitechapel Bell Foundry? Is it still closing down in May this year?
There is a growing campaign to keep the West Ham statue where it is in E13. It may be that the octagonal plinth may be left empty.
The ceremonies team commissioned the Whitechapel Bell Foundry to make the Olympic bell, but their furnace wasn't big enough - Big Ben was the largest they've ever produced. I believe the foundry they used in the Netherlands usually makes propellers for ships. It's a shame they went to all that bother to only ring it once in anger - I'd love it if they rang in the new year with it.

One subtle feature of stadium island is that the handrail of the perimeter fence is engraved with all the medal winners from 2012.
The luxury car market is alive and well. The Porsche showroom has moved to much larger premises at the Gallions roundabout.
(Although they haven't updated the map on their website yet)
That wood could do with a bit of treatment
