@m28a31: As far as I remember, there are two pieces of information regarding the mystery count.

1. In the early years of this blog, there's a year when the count reached 0.3, but rounded down to zero or so because the count had to be integral.

2. DG might have once stated that, the count would have been non-zero if it had been measured in some months other than February. (I tried to recover this message a few days ago but to no avail)

Yep, Feb 2006 was when the mystery count rounded down from 0.3

Thanks Tom for the reference. Counts can't usually be fractional, but clearly this one is special. Since so many minds have failed to guess what it is for so many years, the only rational behaviour is not to try. However minds are not always rational.
