Had my only ever black tie dinner at Leeds Castle. Looks good floodlit too.

The Eleanor Crosses have been covered here before, but in case anyone missed it this is the same Eleanor.

It's an attractive place but with entry fees akin to theme parks, but without the thrill of the rides, it's one that I always skipped when my family were younger.

I frequently drive past here. The narrow bridge near the entrance is hell to navigate in winter due to the area being pitch black.

What is even better, is that they have B & B (and self-catering) accommodation at the castle. This includes the admission and best of all, allows free access to the grounds after they have closed to the public. We came at this time of year and they have lovely rhododendrons in the grounds.

Have been many times over the years, its a magical place. Our kids, who are in their late teens now, still love going there. The light show they have during the Christmas hols is spectacular, worth the expense IMHO

The first time I remember visiting was on a date with the future Mr Cornish Cockney. That was rather a long time ago now!

I've finally finished the write-up 12 hours later than usual, and I hope this did not inconvenience your enjoyment.

No inconvenience. I checked back for updates and wasn't disappointed. Sounds like you enjoyed your day out. I've only been there once before, years back. Must admit I was a bit disappointed by how "French" it was.

I concur with "don't miss the Bird of Prey Centre".
15 years ago stood side by side with someone as hawk flew from behind us soundlessly over our shoulders at head height and speed on the way to some grub in it's handlers glove. Totally silent and no air disruption, truly a master of the covert attack. Makes us humans seem really clumsy. |
