Are the trip hazard boxes an art installation around the giraffe?

dg writes: no.
There was no need for Inside Croydon to gratuitously insult Les Dennis.
Disappointing lack of trams.
Croydon certainly stands tall musically!

It’s Cambridge’s turn to have giraffes next year.
"Miniature copies of a beloved animal", actually. Unless they're all much, much bigger than the photos suggest.
How incredibly depressing and desolate the Whitgift centre has become.
Where’s the weekly bus news round up?
There’s no mileage in a weekly bus news round-up.

If you really want to see what this week’s stories would have been, I’ve posted them in last week’s comments box. All five of them.
In your photo I think RMS Studios is in the building that says 'ZAP' in the window, and perhaps also the building to the right of it.

Alan Jones, who runs RMS Studios, is still active. A musician friend of mine regularly works with Alan.
I was at East Croydon station 2 weeks ago and failed to spot a multi-coloured giraffe - but it wasn't something I expected to see and was more intent on looking for some lunch!

Glad it wasn't just me who struggled to find a map to download!
Weird that the giraffes haven't been unveiled until near the end of the school holidays. By contrast the Morphs in central London have been there all summer.
I have been waiting for someone to comment on the Croydon slogan (first photo) which could have been:
"This is Croydon and you're welcome to it."
The giraffes look less life-like than the Bristol unicorns.
Interesting article, thanks.

Dan - Yes, I grew up in Croydon and remember the Whitgift Centre in the nineties when it was so busy you could barely get a good walking pace when moving through it on a Saturday afternoon. Went back a few weeks ago, on a Saturday afternoon, and was shocked at how dead it was - maybe a third of the shops open at best, more staff around than customers. I know shopping habits have changed etc, but I don't know of any other shopping area that has fallen so far.
