Amstrad seems to have moved to Brentwood in 1984. http://www.amshold.com/social_media/The_Amstrad_Times.pdf See page 11.
For some reason, I assumed that the exterior shots of the location of Lord Sugar's "boardroom" on the Apprentice were shot at the actual Amstrad HQ. Given that the interiors clearly aren't, I wonder why I even thought that...
Only 2 comments on the most exciting post of the year (ok perhaps it's just me)?

Brentwood (sadly) was the town where I grew up.

There was a story that some local "County High" boys threw (or tried to) a Brentwood boy through the window of that furniture shop at Wilson's Corner in a kinda reverse Eton Rifles attack. Dunno if it was true or not.

Looking through the illustrated guide you link to, it is terrible to see some of the buildings pulled down and replaced by 60's or 70s dross.

TOWIE? Is it any good?
I live way out west on the Harrow/Hillingdon border so heading over to Essex to do the Chingford to Chigwell section of the London Loop recently, and stepping into TOWIE country (I've never watched it, but have seen enough clips for it feel like I have!) was a real eye-opener! Having said that, the 'Fairtrade Bake Off' looks like pedants heaven, scrutineering all those ingredients to see how many were grown locally and under what conditions, how much power was used, extra points for hand mixing...
If you're planning to spend the night there you'd best skip the Premier Inn. Their advert sez they have 0 (zero) rooms.
Jodie Marsh is more well-known that many of the people listed on the 'Famous Old Brentwoods' page that you link to. It's mean-spirited of the school to not add her name to the list.
