Weird symmetry with Gare du Nord/King's Cross, and Saint-Lazare/Waterloo.

One pair is formed of the two main gateways into each city from further afield. The other is formed of each city's main suburban station.

Neat.
Hmm. I note that the south of the river is quieter in both London and Paris. This may be off the wall, but perhaps northern European towns and cities are located preferentially on the northern back of river or other body of fresh water. Something to do with looking over the water towards the sun, rather than towards the darker north. That sounds too fanciful; perhaps not.

Maybe prevailing winds in Paris give it the equivalent of a west end and an east end.
I wonder whether the lack of exit numbers is due to the fact that the Métro operates a flat fare policy, so they have no reason to know where passengers exit the system?

Although I'm sure they could count how many times the turnstiles were turned.
Thank you. More info (comparison data analysis) than I could have expected / hoped for.
The Paris Metro generally has one-way gates on exit so exiting passengers are not counted.
Just for the pedantry - there is not station on the Paris Metro called Bibliotheque.
RATP list the station as BIBLIOTHEQUE in their passenger data, so you might want to have a word with them about it.

I suggest a rename to Bibi
Gare du Nord is just absurd. I don't mean the Metro side of it, which isn't so bad. Nor the main intercity platforms (avec Eurostar). But the suburban and RER services - all 25 platforms' worth - is just crazy to try and get around. I once made the mistake of just arranging to meet someone at "Gare du Nord" and found out that we were 30 platforms, 3 levels and a couple sets of ticket gates apart!
A large number of passengers enter the Paris Metro system through the "exit" gates.
