Not quite a building, but the television transmitter at Tacolneston is 221m above sea level.
Thanks DG for giving us this information .
Don't forget that another great free high spot is the viewing platforn at the top of the Switch House extension at Tate Modern.

I went up about half an hour before sunset on a lovely clear day in late November. It wasn't busy and you could see most of London - though you do lose out in that you are quite close to the Shard...
Very pleased to see the Dangleway making a DG comeback. I've missed it.
I see your Parliament Hill and raise you Alexandra Palace - I reckon that is the pick of north London's free to visit viewpoints.
Very tempted by the Love London Card offer, however 7.00am is a bit early to be queuing, especially if it is cold, and as there are only 2,017 available I doubt if I would be in line early enough.

As for views from high I wonder if dg will be visiting Brightons i360 this summer?
You can all say what you will, the Dangleway is a wonderful view for reasonable price for a tourist. I always try to take a trip when I’m visiting London, the views up/down stream are fantastic.

"Also be warned that last year you had to be a London resident to qualify, which is probably still the case, even though it's not specified in the terms and conditions."

Surely if it's not in the terms and conditions, by definition, it's not a condition.
Will the view from the Manhattan Loft Gardens in the Olympic park (at 135m, significantly higher than the Dangleway or the Orbit) be open to the public?
It is possible that the list of terms and conditions on the website may not be complete. There could be an additional condition, imposed at the time of standing at the window trying to buy one of the cards.

Unlikely, but the possibility adds to the disincentive against standing in the rain.
I recommended the view from the Orbit to my son when he moved into student halls in the former Olympic Park. He didn't bother when he discovered that the communal lounge in his halls looked down on it.
Thanks for the heads-up on the Shard. I think I might chance it on Tuesday.
See you in the queue on Mondah
Following on from ap, there's also free public access (possibly not widely known) to the balcony overlooking the river at the restaurant near the top of the Oxo Tower.
It was a useful vantage point to go last September, at the time of the 'London 1666' re-enactment event, as the barge was directly opposite the building.

(You just go up there by lift and tell the restaurant staff you'd like to see the view.)
Those with the Shard season ticket in 2016 can purchase another for 2017 from tomorrow, rather confusingly it's not obvious if these are part of the 2017 available but they said that they will tweet when all season tickets are sold out, Took quite a while last year from memory and then they 'relaunched' the offer a few weeks later. I'm planning to go either Friday or Saturday..of course subject to London being open due to snow.
@ Roger, I got mine renewed at 10am, just a small queue (and unexpectedly got to see a blizzard from the top - quite magical!). Speaking to the staff, it does seem that the 2017 total includes existing and new passes.

Also I was told by staff the promotion runs tills 30th Jan, so if the passes don't sell out on Monday as happened last year, people can pop in at a later date.
Long time reader and admirer though never commented before. I know it seems expensive, but I had a wonderful time climbing the O2 with a friend, for whom it was a surprise Xmas gift. The guide was tremendous fun, and our small group bonded. Being so close to this unique piece of architecture all the way up was fabulous. We went at sunset, which is recommended. Don't knock it till you've tried it. Keep up the amazing work on this astonishingly good blog.
Thanks for the heads up about the LoveLondon / Shard offer. The two hour queue in the cold this morning was not much fun, but I've got my card for £20.17 - yippee
Still queuing (since 0720, but nearly at desk :-) ) but reckon it's worth it!
guess I was somewhere behind Stephen in the queue this morning. arrived at 8:11 got my Love London Card a little after 12...
@jg yes I got there about 0720 and finally got ticket at about 1130!
