Because of extensive sunk costs the government is now stuck in a spiral of oppression.
Just acknowledge you've lost control and give up (because you insisted on keeping schools, colleges and universities open), and let us get on with our lives, life isn't fair, loads of other people have died 'before their time' and the world kept turning.
For the majority the virus is harmless, so why do they need to risk taking a vaccine they don't require, and may need to take repeatedly to maintain immunity.

New variant was identified in September so it’s not new.
Fear limits people making rational decisions.
Only take LICENSED vaccines. Approved is not the same as Licensed otherwise it would be called Licensed.

Greenwich got all the publicity, but Waltham Forest also advised all their schools to close from Tuesday, then were told to open them again. A friend was told his children's primary school would be closed from Tuesday at 2pm on Monday, then after rushing to make arrangements it was open again for the end of the week; whereas ours stayed open on Tuesday (to finish off all their festive plans and give parents some time to prepare) and then brought forward some INSET days so most children weren't back on site again.
We're already expecting a last-minute announcement (perhaps on the 2nd) that at least the first week back will be remote learning.
