Nice Betjeman verse pastiche, dg!
Excellent, I could imagine being there.
it's in the diary for next year, thanks
Don't forget Cheam Charter Fair, also held in May each year (May 20th this year), and which is supposed to date from 1259.
The latest in a series: "Epic Facts about Pinner"! I'm savouring the prospect of further features.
I went to Pinner for the Heath Robinson museum, and was surprised how lovely the town centre is. Absolutely worth a visit, even when there isn't a fair.
Less than a mile from our house! We used to go with our children, but haven't been for many years! Saw the fairground vehichles assemble and park on the dual carrigeway section of George V Avenue on Tuesday and several leaving Pinner at about 22:45 on Wednesday evening.
It's true, Pinner is worth a visit at any time!!!
That might explain the Traveller's contingent that rocked up to my local park this week then!

Suddenly realised halfway through the verses that they weren't by Sir John Betjeman! It was the reference to to winning a Minion that made me stop and think!
Lovely write up.
Despite growing up about a mile away I never once went to the fair, instead being dragged along to the Harrow Show which took place later in the year. Not being a charter event, it's seemingly disappeared and become the "Headstone Village Show", a much smaller affair. I think I'll make the effort next year as it looks like I've been missing out all these years.
I was actually at the fair yesterday as a proud Harrovian, but there's not much I can add to your excellent coverage. However, why have they put a National Rail logo on the poster?
