I think quite a few Londoners have already made the trip. I went a few weeks ago and my sister, like you, was also visiting on Saturday. I have been searching your photographs to see if I can spot her. |
Great piece,dg. The Midland Hotel in Morecambe has also just reopened for business. And what a brilliant architect Mendelsohn was in his own right. See this sadly vanished masterpiece from 1931(!) in Berlin. |
I love the old 1930s art-deco architecture with its big windows. To me, this is like one of the old hotels you might see on Miami Beach. I think it's great that the council have spent the money carefully modernising the pavilion rather than demolishing it to make room for yet more expensive flats. |
DYK Delaware is named after the de la Warr's? |
For a bit of De La Warr in Estonia, see Rannahotell and Rannakohvik on FLICKR. |
A true Art Deco icon, this is a fantastic building, and those stairs. |
By "the UK" you mean "England and Aberystwyth". |
Impressive set of photos, dg. |
I went there in 1972. It was the first time I ever bought a drink at a bar (coke...) I seem to remember there being a model village in the area which much impressed 4-year-old me! |
