The hipsters picnicking en masse on London Fields today have created much angst on social media sites.

It will be interesting to look back on this in 2 or 3 weeks time and see if there has been a spike in cases down the road from you.
Yes, it might be interesting if information about the spread of virus cases was made public at the microlevel. But it seems that the driver for lockdown relaxation is to be the R number which is intangible and imprecise: better indicators, I suggest, would be deaths in hospital (already published), deaths elsewhere (now apparently being captured), new diagnoses (also known) and most importantly the percentage of negative test results (only sensibly valid if the 100,000 daily target is routinely achieved and then steadily increased). And let's have a proper plan for testing in "care homes" (ie including every such establishment by name, with a date on which everyone in or connected to the premises will be tested).

Urban folk (who often live in smaller properties) go to a park to get some fresh air and sun and it gets condemned.
Suburban folk get all of their neighbours together, create conga lines to mix everyone together, call it a VE celebration and we are all supposed to applaud.
The hypocrisy sticks in my throat.
Agreed.
I too have my concerns about the privacy of the government's contact tracing app. But testing it on the Isle of Wight is canny thinking; its a Conservative safe seat with a lot of trusting Tories, so the government can expect a high uptake and call it a win.
Don't get me wrong, wasn't just having a pop at the hipsters.
It will be interesting to see the figures from Cosham and the like as well.
Re the hint about easing lockdown restrictions from Monday: I walked into the city centre here in Coventry to do some shopping for somebody I'm helping out (I live only 10 minutes' walk away) The number of people around was significantly greater then the norm. I wonder if careless talk really does cost lives.
We seem to have moved from a posture of "stay at home, with limited exceptions" (such as obtaining basic necessities, exercise, or work that cannot be done at home) to a new posture of "stay at home, with limited exceptions" (such as obtaining basic necessities, exercise, or work that cannot be done at home). With a "conditional plan" that there might be some changes in a few weeks: for example, schools might open a bit more (they are already open for some children) from 1 June, perhaps.

The new slogan "stay alert" apparently means "stay alert by staying home as much as possible, but stay alert when you do go out by maintaining social distancing, washing your hands" etc. That is, carry on much as before, but with added alertness (because viruses target inattentive or careless people?). Jesus wept.
