Thanks DG, I'm pleased to see you back to your quirky best. Also pleased to see public transport directions nicely hidden. I shall be going.
Oh, how lovely! And so empty!
Super read - love the last cobblestone picture!
Really pleased you got another chance to see all this at its best. On Saturday I was walking on the other side of the Brighton Road. I think it is just as good but different and considerably quieter. It is wonderful to walk to the end of my road, catch a local 434 bus to the terminus, get off and almost straightaway enjoy the peace and beauty of the countryside despite it being a bank holiday. Afterwards I crossed the main A23 road and returned via the quirky Netherne Village located at the site of a former psychiatric hospital and Farthing Down.

The field varies over the seasons and the crop can be so high that you have no views at all or it can all be unappealing bare earth in winter and extremely muddy.

I don't know if it is my imagination but it seems that Ditches Lane is becoming quiet popular with ordinary cyclists heading out to the countryside which seems to put off the speeding cars using it and so makes walking along the road a pleasant easy stroll.
If travelling south by train on the five-and-nine (the Brighton Line), the boundary of London is just before the flyover where the fast (Quarry) line crosses over the slow (Redhill) line.
'Oldest' is always going to be a contentious assertion.

Pickering, Yorkshire is also renowned for its wall paintings:

I've been to the Fox many times over the years. Now they have more choice for me and I can recommend that courgette, carrot and chickpea burger. One of the better veg alternatives I've come across.
Btw, Dg, are you still posting off your neighbours broadband? Or was the Jag car owned by whoever turned up with the magic key? 😄😄
...is it only me who is left wondering who is the person in the second pic?
Can tick off Happy Valley and the Fox from that list as I did both during that section of the London Loop last summer.
In fact Happy Valley has been one of the favourites out of the 16 sections we've currently completed!
"We asked this nice rambler to pose at the point on the path". "We"...so DG & ? Or is it a secret/mystery?
@Grumpy Anon

We = members of Team DG. Ordinarily, time constraints force them to go out on individual missions but, with the enforced break this week, at least two of them were able to go on this task together.
Happy Valley is astonishing, really doesn't feel like it could possibly be in London. That part of the London Loop is splendid.

And now I know I've supped in the most southerly pub in London.
By comparison I had a boring day. Went to a shop and bought some dynamite before entering silver mine in Bolivia where we exploded it. Every town had Wi Fi unlike Dgs luxury pad near bus stop M. Time to emigrate perhaps?
I have trouble getting an Uber at the outskirts of Harrow, so not sure how easy it would be from Ditches Lane. Phone signal may be poor too...
@ shirokazan
Team DG?! Why not mentioned before...or have I been missing something?

To quote one user (Zevemiel): "Blimey, didn't realise Diamond Geezer was still going."
I jumped on my Brompton and headed down from Battersea to Chaldon to see the mural and it is amazing. I'm running a free escorted cycle trip there on a July Saturday if anyone wants to join me.

I'll start in Wandsworth Town, cycle by the side of The River Wandle and then after Chaldon & Fox finish back at Coulsdon South. About 35Km. If you want to join in, leave a comment
