I have a soft spot for Clacton. I holidayed there every summer from age 3 to 15. We stayed in the same bed and breakfast every year and pretty much did the same things every year (and we often stayed for a fortnight). Quite a change to the holidays my kids enjoy. Never the same place twice
We used to go there as kids because my Gran and Grandad lived there and we would stay with them for a week in the summer.
I grew up in Clacton. Moved away to go to university and in the last 35 years I've only made fleeting visits to see my family.

I have a soft spot for the place, but it soon evaporates whenever I return there.
Clacton looks very nice.
I'm glad that you're OK.
Like Dave I was brought up in Clacton and moved away to go to university a long time ago.
I go back very occasionally and I think you have been very kind with your photo selection. It actually made me feel nostalgic for the place. However, the sad reality would, I suspect, overwhelm any nostalgia very quickly. (BTW if you want an alternative view of Clacton (based on metropolitan snobbery)check out Matthew Parris' hatchet job in The Times.
thanks for the double dose this morning (yes I missed you yesterday and contributed to the 50% increase re-loading the page)
Re: Peewit. When I was a child our family did exactly the same at Broadstairs. Went back there a few years ago and it just wasn't the same.
Yes, I too had family holidays at Clacton, Felixstowe, Frinton and Walton on the Naze and we then in turn took our children for Summer days out to the same resorts. This year we'll be taking our 6 year old grandson for a paddle and building sandcastle day out. Happy days.
Good to have you back DG, missed you yesterday.
If you want a pure sandy beach, no shingle or mud in sight, then Clacton/Walton/Frinton must be the easiest beaches to get to by London by train.
