Amazing to think that Emmerdale has now been a fixture on UK television for 52 years.
The other question is will it last a further 52 years? |
Given the low cost of communication, still doing the once a year Christmas card says a lot about the relevance of the relationship.
Most of your list is about consuming media in some form or other, the good thing about the internet is that the msm no longer has the ability to decide what it is and in what order it should be consumed in. |
The oft-quoted myth about people not being able to afford stamps is making me quite cross - a 2nd class stamp costs just 85p.
For that a card can be delivered anywhere in the UK. I think that is a fantastic bargain. Given that most people happily shell out several pounds every day for coffees and food 'on the go', saying they can't afford stamps is just an excuse. I'd bet that most people don't even know what a stamp actually costs these days anyway. |
Brilliant list!
We alluded to some of these topics in the family this year; although not in such a concise way. |
Thanks to the way non-barcode stamps were valued and replaced, I now have pretty much a lifetime's supply of 2nd Class stamps so I still sent plenty of cards this year.
|
I still send and receive traditional Christmas cards (not e-cards!), but the number is gradually reducing - about 30 each way this year.
It was only the non-barcode definitive stamps (ie. the plain ones with just the Queen/King's head) that the Royal Mail killed off, so if you hung onto any old non-barcode commemorative stamps or previous years' Christmas stamps they are very much still useable. |
Excellent - and spot on too!
I seem to be stuck in the 1990s/2000s, though perusing the same old tat in the shops, how did we ever survive without Amazon?! Probably explains why my grandad always got a jar of Brylcream for Christmas!! |
- Get unwanted matching tie and shirt from Aunt.
- Actually asked what you want as a present - Receive gift cards as presents - Use Secret Santa app for gift request |
I bought this year’s Christmas double issue but must admit that despite wanting to, I haven’t had the time to go through it yet.
