Superb post, and I would like to think SJB would approve. I wholeheartedly agree with your sentiments on the modern Wembley - goodness knows the old one was a dump, but the current incarnation is commercialisation to the point of sterile banality in terms of character.
And the final picture… I remember it (or it’s predecessor) very well from the first time I came across this marvellous blog after a Google search for Metroland a fair few years ago.

Wembley really is transformed from when I was a boy, or even adult. Some of it for the good, like the stadium itself, the "improved" Arena and some of the commercial development. However the majority of the residential development is bland, over dense and soulless. It does not bode well for what it will be like in the future.
