Happy Birthday. Enjoy the soup!
Happy birthday!
Happy birthday DG!
Feliz cumple, DG, and many happy returns of the day!
Oh my.. was calves feet jelly really a thing?
HB2U DG. Enjoy the bus ride.
Thanks for another memory of Hayes.
Happy birthday, DG. Enjoy the beans and soup, and glad you got a chance to explore some of West London after so long being away.
Happy Birthday DG.
Happy Birthday, DG! Enjoy your bus ride to Kingston!
Happy birthday DG! Think I might open a can myself today.
Happy birthday DG
Happy Birthday DG... Not long until retirement :)

Perhaps a trip to see 'The' Batman may be a good treat
Happy Birthday! Great to learn something new about my part of London.
Happy Birthday DG.

As ever you share your birthday with my wife, who has just turned 60 but has failed to receive her 60+ Oyster Card, a fate that will also befall you in three years time (TfL emergency funding agreements permitting).

Why? There was no option to apply for it 14 days ago, apparently because of a software issue whereby TfL's computer doesn't know February has only 28 days, hence she could only apply 11 days ago! I hope this bug will be fixed in time for you!
What a splendid post!! Happy birthday DG!
Lovely post, and happy birthday.

For me the first thing 57 brings to mind is treble nineteen.
Happy Birthday

Happy birthday DG!
Happy birthday DG, have a good one.
Many Happy Returns
Happy birthday DG!
Best wishes for your birthday.
I knew someone who worked at the Heinz research establishment in Hayes, he always joked that his job was testing baked beans and soup. He was a trained chemist.
Happy Birthday DG. Here's to another year of fantastic blogging and travels.
Many happy returns monsieur.

Why not celebrate with the ultimate comfort food, eh?
It's a shame you aren't enjoying the same baked beans from a special 57 varieties 150th anniversary can from Fortnum's. They tasted just the same despite the special label with the clock on, and the ketchup bottle makes for a splendid vase.
I feel everyone should have a iconic factory to call their own.

Mine is (now was, due to similar business conglomeration) the Nabisco cookie factory in Fair Lawn, Bergen County, New Jersey. Opened a few years before I was born, closed a few years ago, similar duration to Heinz
My grandfather always called mongrel/cross-breed dogs 'Heinz Dogs' as they too came in 57 varieties.
Happy birthday DG! Have a souper day. Pleased to see turning 57 beans business as usual with another wonderfully informative post. Toasting you many happy returns.
Happy Birthday.
Happy Birthday, DG!
Happy Birthday DG. Enjoy your birthday treat.
Happy Heinz birthday DG!
Happy Birthday DG.
Happy Birthday DG!

Enjoy your meal.

What else are you having with the soup and beans?
Birthday greetings from me too !
Happy Beanzday to you!
×57
And it's Birthday Greetings from him too (Ie Marmaduke Jinks) ;-)
Happy birthday, DG.

There's also the iconic Hoover factory in Middlesex (now a Tesco). Also may be worth visiting the World Dryer Corporation's UK HQ in Honeypot Lane, Brentwood, if that still exists.
Best wishes for a beany birthday DG. It was good to read your extended-travel blog.
Good to hear you'll be full of beans on your birthday and the soup'll be in you, rather than you being in the soup.
Have a great day and many happy returns.
Many happy returns DG :-)
Happy Birthday!
Hope you have a great birthday, it's certainly started with an absorbing post! You are probably too young to remember Heinz the Bolt, but may recall his successor, Bernie.
This just brings me all those memories of cycling into the maternity hospital where my wife (and your mother) had celebrated her own birthday by giving birth to a baby boy.
Happy birthday DG, enjoy your bus ride.
Happy Birthday DG.
Hope the bus ride is more enjoyable than the out of date soup.
Happy Birthday from me too DG.
Happy birthday. Enjoy your soup, swoop, loop de loop as Alexei Sayle would say.
Happy Birthday DG. Terrific post today.
I share John Simmons' curiosity as to what else you'll be having for your supper.
I find that a lightly poached egg on the beans does wonders.
Happy Birthday! A fascinating post, really shocked that Heinz/Kraft's UK HQ is in the Shard of all places.

The Heinz Wigan site is enormous, it's been featured on various TV programmes (like Inside the Factory)
HBDG!
And what a fantastic post!
That old film was amazing, all those ladies doing so many boring jobs.
Somehow the lady checking the weights with a pair of scales just didn't ring true, concocted for the film I suspect.
But some wonderful machinery, I'd like to get it working again (see my url for the machinery I work on).
Happy Birthday!
Fascinating story - until today, I've never been consciously aware of the "57" as part of the Heinz branding. We never had tinned tomato soup in my childhood, and I grew up with Kraft ketchup.
Happy birthday DG.
Your birthday jaunt has led me to the pleasing discovery that Heinz was for many years UK based at 99 Farringdon Road. As a schoolboy my father would daily have passed the building topped, apparently, by a gigantic model pickle. Which tickles me. Many thanks!
Happy birthday, DG!

The 300g can does have one advantage: it's the right size for one serving. The 400g cans were too much for one and not enough for two.
You’ll be pleased to know that the 400g variant is still widely available, DG. Happy birthday.
Just missed being #57 comment. Happy Birthday DG.
Yep Happy Birthday. And as Chris says, 400g tins still available. I got a load from Morrisons recently.
Happy Birthday DG 🍾🎂🎉
Very Happy Birthday to you DG.
Looking forward to your upcoming visit to my home borough of Harrow....and to all your future blogs.
My iconic factory is the Kodak factory in Harrow where I worked for over 30 years and used to be the largest factory in London after Ford at Dagenham. Over 7000 empoyees at its peak.
It's now on its way to be be a housing estate with a few industrial sheds!
Many Happy Returns.
Happy Birthday to you
Many happy returns.
Many happy returns, dg.
I never tire of reading your blog, and am looking forward to many more years of posts to come. As are you, undoubtedly!
I've always associated Heinz with the North West (although I hadn't remembered it was Wigan until your post) ever since it was on an episode of Channel 4's Treasure Hunt when I was a child. 57 varieties was part of the clue that took them to the factory.

I really am showing my age and nerdiness now
Happy birthday DG.

And thanks for all of the enjoyment that your blog has provided to so many people for such a long time.
Happy Birthday dg, Hope you have a wonderful time celebrating your special day. kind Regards Lynn
Happy Birthday DG

Cxx
Happy Birthday DG. Give us a wave in Tooting as you pass along the bottom of our road on the 57. Looking forward to the next instalment in the B road series.
Happy birthday DG
Have fun on the 57 today. A bus I'm very familiar with.
Happy birthday, it's mine today too funnily enough.
Cheers on your annual return to the general orbital vicinity of your birth. May the day bring you much joy and serenity.
Happy birthday, DG, and all the best for the new year in your life.
Best wishes to you DG on your birthday! Many years ago there was quite a local trade in 'knock-off' boxes from Heinz from some of their dodgy drivers. For a few quid you got a cardboard box full of tins without labels which would keep the family fed for many weeks. Trouble was you had no way of knowing what was in them so it did through up a few tea-time surprises! Eventually the contents were printed on the can thus ending 1970's gastronomic games of chance. Happy days. I particularly enjoyed the sponge puddings they made, a Sunday treat.
Happy birthday DG!
Happy Birthday, DG!

Andrew at 1.04 said exactly what I would have said if I'd thought of it first and got here sooner.
Very best wishes,
Nedd
Hope you had a lovely birthday, DG.
Congratulations!!
"Two soups", eh.

Cue Julie Walters - and Celia Imrie and Duncan Preston trying not to corpse.

HB, dg.
I hope you had a souper day on the 57!
My mother always gave us Heinz Tomato Soup for tea after a visit to the dentists, just in case there was any residual blood - chicken soup would not have been suitable!
I was hoping to get comment 57 but I got 82.

Happy Birthday and thanks for another year of fascinating reads. I am much wiser now than when you turned 56!

Hope you had a good day!
