I've said it before, I going to say it again and no doubt I'll keep (in one way or another) saying it. London is TOO expensive for many Londoners. Yes there are free places to visit... and for those I am truely grateful. I think the idea of (Tower Hamlets) library card holders getting in to The Tower of London for a £1 should in some way be extended to others places and by other councils...maybe London-wide. I try to take in the many (free an not so expensive) delights on offer in London, but feel too much is still out of reach for those of "limited means".
Thanks for the tips dg, very timely, we'll be using them on our trip to London this Easter. For those planning a trip to London by train don't forget the 2 for 1 offers, they will save you some money when visiting Tower of London, among others.
Excellent timing DG. My niece and her husband, who live next door to me, will be in London towards the end of May.
I tried the Children's Trail with my daughter last week and really enjoyed it. There are a few coloured routes to follow but I collected the leaflet in advance so we could have a different starting point and take in the best of each route before ending at the Museum of London. Good free fun.
From the blurb on the Trail map:
"The route can be walked in either direction, starting at the City Information Centre"

What? How? It's a linear trail, not a circular one!
You can walk it in either direction, but not starting from the Information Centre each time.
Londoner's have convenient access to more free museums than probably anywhere in the world. And a lot of these are absolutely world class.

Why not go to one of them in paid for attractions are too expensive. It's an option that people in the rest of the country do not have!
