Odd, I have a very clear memory of Easter 1976 waking early on Good Friday to a light covering of snow in North London then travelling in snow to the Isle of Wight - there were snowdrifts on Ventnor downs on Easter Saturday, but bright sunshine. By Easter Monday the temperature was warm (we were in shirtsleeves on deck on the return ferry) and stayed that way through the summer...

...ah the British and the weather ...still a safe topic for discussion nowadays ...or is it? ...best not slip-into mentioning climate-change/global warming ...or pollution levels ...only thing i dare add is ...sunscreen
Even warmer than my visit last year in late May. It was quite sunny back then too!

Now, the Easter weekend in Hong Kong was plagued by thunderstorm, with at least two died hiking in the wrong weather...
"....but four days of wall-to-wall sunshine and temperatures in the mid-twenties might just be as good as Easter ever gets."

I'll take it! :) As the mercury rises so do my energy levels so this weekend has been utter bliss!
I congratulate you on writing this article without feeling the urge to mention that well-known (and overused) statistic about the relative frequencies of snowfall on the major Christian holidays.
Steve, 1976 was the year of the drought, when it was incredibly hot and sunny and dry from the beginning of April onwards. A Minister for Drought was appointed, reservoirs ran dry, standpipes in some streets etc.
Thanks, DG & Joho - yes, my memory says it snowed Good Friday then the heatwave hit for 76 (which I remember well) but 75 was a decent summer too, so I've probably got the two mixed. Looking at that detailed site 75 seems more likely. Memory, huh?
It was announced yesterday that this Easter Day was the warmest ever recorded at LHR and one other location (modern records, approx 1916, I think) at 26°C.

I take it that the data you give for 1984 and 2011 were for other days over the weekend.
Thanks for the post plus all the comments. I thought it might help me resolve a memory of a year, probably in the 70s. Good Friday was warm enough for shorts/t-shirt when painting garden seat. Followed by snow on Easter Monday when visiting relatives at Stock. Just curious.
