Just to let you know DG I found the actual post quite entertaining.
Given the tachnology back then, a 11-mile error isn't really that large.
This tripped my memory of Weedon Bec near Daventry being determined as the centre of England and so the Royal Ordnance Depot was established there in 1803.
This could have meant 'the centre' in military terms e.g. the place which would take the longest for an invading army to reach, or just a vague centre-ish, though as Napoleon was the threat a site further west such as Meriden would have made more sense although lacking direct canal access.
The Act which established the depot isn't available online so I unfortunately can't check the wording.
That monument to the cyclists is a stonking find. TVM.

I have finished my toast. It was tasty.
The name also seems suitable for the centre of England - if it had still been known by its previous name of Alspath, I’m not sure the ‘legend’ would have gained traction.
