I don't have a Twitter account and I have long ago dropped Londonist off my reading list.

But can somebody explain, in normal text, why Croydon might have different postcodes to everywhere else ?

(and now sssh about postcodes...)

Any feedback from Londonist on these posts DG? In the not-too-distant past they would have done.

I subscribe to GeoffTech's content now and get the best of Londonist without the clickbait drivel.
The main problem IMO, is that on the internet, everybody expects everything to be free.
To make it free for the user, the site must sell it’s soul to the devil, which means that all content is compromised.

Basically you are just watching advertisements, truth or any objectivity is suppressed to pander to the need to generate more revenue .

I also subscribe to GeoffTech's, I have been following his blog since 2009 trip across the USA.
Obsessed much? Meeoww much?
I misread 'smartphone surfers' as 'smartphone sufferers'. Made sense.
I used to read the Londonist religiously, when I first came to London it was in its early incarnation and provided some genuinely interesting articles and info about events at a time when Time Out was a paid for product.

The news roundups every day were a particular highlight, and when firstly the weekend, then the daily posts got dropped I started reading less and less - their spammy Facebook and twitter posts ensured that I unsubscribed too (but not before noticing that the pictures on their posts regularly bare no relation to the post)

This post here is some of the worst 'journalism' I've ever seen...

Tweeting a day later is a tactic to see how people come to your site. eg hour 0: post, hour 12: rss, hour 24: twitter, hour 48: facebook. See when your views per hour peak.

I'm also only there for Geoff's videos. The review of the restaurant where you cook your own food made me nearly unsubscribe.
Dear Diamond, Gresham's Law " bad drives out good".
Don't let that happen to your blog. Its my little piece of daily sanity.
Thank you.

I don't subscribe to Twitter, but I do have a Facebook account and had noticed old posts from a variety of different sites, not just Londonist, were popping up rather frequently.

Now I know why! Thanks.
re: that Big Mac Meal prices post...

Oh, wow. The Comments section has wondrously rematerialised on the Londonist article. Fancy that!
I was wondering who owns Londonist.

Like many other commentators I have effectively given up on it. The last straw was a clickbait set of old pictures. They were so copied and pasted that some were repeated in the piece!

I note they admit to working under franchise from Gothamist which is still a more serious NYC site.
"Londonist.com was established as a hobby blog in 2004 by a bunch of London enthusiasts, the first European edition of the NYC-based Gothamist Network. Londonist Ltd was created in 2010 to operate the website as a UK franchise."

"In 2010 Londonist was transferred to the London-based startup LDN Creative."

"Like frisky pigeons, we think we've found our perfect match in the guys behind the @LDN Twitter account and are embarking on feathering our love-nest, right here in London."
Your continued sniping of this website is embarrassing and shows a healthy jealousy. It doesn't show you in a good light. Post less if you can't think of anything else but to slag someone off.
I think Mark (6:56 pm) means "unhealthy".
Yes Mark does. :) give it up DG.
Londonist-bashing again?!
Londonist are explicitly flogging specific numbers of tweets to sponsors. Info here: http://www.londonistltd.com/prices
I see you're in second place on Reddit London at the moment.
@Jack
Am I the only one that thinks that the grammar is wrong on those price lists?:
2x Professionally written article on Londonist.com
2x Daily email inclusion
1x Twitter posts
Doesn't singular / plural in grammar count any more?
Fair enough to remind people that some of their older posts are still worth reading. But many of us, and particularly younger people, are highly sensitive to such obvious "click bait" headlines never click on them, so I think its only going to have a limited impact.
In reply to Paul, cos Londonist used to reply quick here, I am not Londonist any more but I'm sad about some of the decisions that have been made since I left. What I would like to say is that there's still a tremendous archive of quirky, intelligent, well researched stuff in there if you dig, and new articles continue to appear that do credit to the multifarious nature of London. I always appreciated the sharp eye of Dg on what we did and I hope the current writers still do. Londonist was a fantastic thing when a collective of London geeks was able to dictate what it did ... those days are sadly gone. But maybe it's time for another maverick project to arise ....
