28: Impressive self-discipline. Not long ago I forced myself to give up eating peanuts because I had poor body-check results. I was a bag-per-day before that.
23) A learning journey for me, my immediate thought was Tate will be gone soon, as there must be slavery links with sugar. But Henry Tate was 14 when slavery was abolished in the British Empire and seems to have been a decent gent even by modern standards.

A pleasant surprise and typical of reading your blog that even a random photo helps me learn something!
5 Dr Who, I will not watch programmes intended for TV viewing which are made in 2:1 aspect ratio, which means a gap top and bottom on a 16:9 television screen. This 2:1 ratio is also known as Univisiun and is supposed to be a compromise between wider screen cinema ratios and TV. I accept and watch cinema films with gaps top and bottom they were made for cinema release, but Dr Who is a TV series not a cinema film and should be in TV ratio 16:9. I complained to the BBC about this and they said it was artistic.
Dr Who has also fallen into the practice often found on cheap made for TV movies in that it has continuous droning background music, not added carefully and appropriately used, but non-stop, just quieter in some parts another reason to switch the programme off.
18. I got the theme almost immediately which is very unusual for me but it still took me almost a week to finish it.
16 - Exactly the same here. There have been the most cases of Covid in my circle of aquaintences in the last month *by far*. I suspect that this is a demographic who were very very careful in the first two big waves, but are now triple vaxxed and let the guard down. None of them had symptoms worse than a mild cold.
16- +0.5 on Dan's analysis, plus omicron apparently being somewhat more transmissible than previous variants with symptoms that mimic common cold.

Cost Centre #1 managed to bring it home from school as a Christmas present. Government needs to start offering vaccines from age 4+.
14. It may not be short-sightedness. My vision is very good, as measured by an optician, but I am often unable to find things, which seem to me to be hidden in plain sight. It feels as if my brain can scan the whole environment and see everything except the item I am looking for.
7. Given that listings information is available from a number of easy to access sources, I'd imagine that the demographic that still buys Radio Times @ £5+ diminishes with each passing festive season.
9. Terrific programmes both; there were earlier episodes during the early 2020 lockdowns that were positive for relief of anxiety and locked-in feelings.
23. Bit of a mess.
Most of the buzzwords are nouns, one set is verbs and the word "inclusive" is an adjective.
Not a good example to set.
5. I just don’t get Doctor Who. Looks cheap, pantomime level acting, poor plots, too loud, bombastic / shouty one minute, cringe level soppiness the next.
26. DG is on Insta? First I've heard...

dg writes: This is actually the third time you've commented on the fact.
16 - that week and every week since
25 - I realise no questions will be answered, but I am genuinely curious how that presumably decade-old pudding was.
15. You managed to spill a glass of red wine over BestMate’s sofa ……… Were you doing an impression of Boris? 🙂
22 - no progress on the airport yet then.
10 - A fitting coincidence that you were looking for a woolly hat on the same day former Monkee Michael Newsmith, famous for wearing a woolly hat on the show, passed away.
3) I saw a similar poster on another leg of the Overground and did a double-take (though didn't have time to get a photo and it had gone next time I'd taken a train).

20) we were having the same dilemma about going home for Hogmanay, but Scotland's restriction (sorry, 'protection') on a whole household having to isolate for 10 days if one person gets it (regardless of test results) made the decision for us.
3. Not helping TfL's coffers!

5. Got to the end of Dr. Who and wasn't really any wiser what it was about! Keeps me coming back though!

6 (& 1). Dogs, ugh!

7. The TV guide I get has risen from 42p in 2012 to 70p the week before the Christmas edition - up 1p from the week before. I can't do the maths to see if the graph would mimic yours though!

8. Wondering what it was a distraction from? Rishi Sunak in the USA selling off the NHS perhaps.

11. Not exactly the most scenic of locations!

16. Same in my circle of acquaintances around the country, but a few days later. I don't think they've been any less careful either.

20. Guess that question was answered in the later unblogged post.
31. I'm being hopeful that we will reach the 31st, but may I jump to that day and wish you a HNY for tomorrow, and 365 days of more eclectic (but variously fascinating, informative and altogether unique) blogging.
7. A printed programme guide and an electronic one do different things as far as I'm concerned so I use both. Electronic ones are lousy for instance for scanning quickly across all the stations to see more than just the programme titles for an evening's viewing or listening without having to keep expanding boxes. They're far better at updating when timings change though!
8. And yet somehow the PM survives for now.

13. I initially had Fournier Street in mind, but is it Elder Street?

16. Same here. Three positives from the five in my household that week (including me, just a few days before my booster booking, and after I'd been working from home again for over a week to minimise pre-Christmas risk: as with MilesT above, I'm also blaming our youngest for bringing it home from school). Plus two of four in my brother-in-law's family. But thankfully not yet any older relatives.
Days which have not inspired comment:
1 2 4 12 17 19 21 24 27

(but the majority have, cheers!)

29 - patently a day of few highlights - in keeping with the weather, the general mood, and time of year. Roll on 2022
30 - it would have helped me if the rules indicated that a letter can appear more than once! I'll know next time.
30) I was chuffed to get yesterday's in 3
30) As usual you're bringing things to my attention that I previously new nothing about. Thanks for Wordle.

Got my first game in 5 clues, look forward to tomorrow's game.
31. Now, *that* is impressive. Best wishes for 2022.
