yep... My ten year old, 1st Southgate, self, growing up a stones throw from the Ranelagh pub shown in the picture, was so excited at the prospect of a weekend camp in the countryside, so imagine my surprise having collected all the other cub packs in the vicinity, we ended up back at the Scout Park... happy days ....
Bounds Green: I believe that the "narrow grassy stripe" was to mark the original parish boundary from which the area takes it's name. On a guided walk there earlier this year we were shown an original (Victorian?) parish boundary marker, partially buried in the grass.

Scout Park: I enjoyed many an adventure visit there with the 20th Tottenham cubs and scouts in the early 70s. Impressed that it survives to serve the same purpose today.
Hurrah - a not-quite-direct hit on my home by DG.

I wonder whether the shutter repairers were from one of the many companies which indiscriminately sticker all over shop shutter frames in the hope of gaining business the next time a shutter gets stuck. I’ve no idea how the shopkeeper chooses which one to call.

Thanks
Well here's a thing! First three comments are all Scout Park reminiscences. Mine was with the 175th North London. Not overnight, but several jamboree type things. Also a thrilling dash to hospital (Highlands) with a patient who had cut a knee open on a rock in the lake, an 18 year old me, newly licensed, driving my father's mark 2 Zephyr. Those were the days!
Yup Scout Park again. I've not slept over there but my Sea Scout children did. And one of them taught canoeing to cubs in the little lake.
Its a magical place.
Among the Scouting reminiscences, we missed the rest of the 7 mile findings. I did like the tile house numbers, also the single track bit of North Circular. Amazing that that has survived right through the era when dualling to accommodate traffic was the done thing.
I love these posts, and I know three of these places quite well, surprised myself there!
I went to the Ranelagh Pub a week ago, and caught the 221 bus home.

So there, Diamond Geezer!
