Bus stop M !!!
Wow.
You have made my day. Monday too.
Bus stop M… wooo!
Who knew Bus Stop M would have such a claim to fame!
A very welcome return to Bus Stop M.👍
When you go to the prisons I can recommend breakfast at 'The Clink' - run by the prison 'guests'. You need to book in advance I think.
Back in the 60s the route 108 was a double decker and the Blackwall Tunnel then only had the one bore for the two way traffic. Because of the very tight fit, the 108 was fitted with special reinforced tyres as it was continually scrubbing against the tunnel kerb. It was very noisy.
My favourite quirk of taking the 8 from Bus Stop M is that the bus heading west to Tottenham Court Road starts on the Eastbound carriageway of Bow Road.
This confused me very much the first time I tried to take the bus to Bethnal Green, assuming it would go from Westbound Stop J.
Even after all these years you can still find enough to get a post out of Bust Stop M and it still be interesting!
It's like catching up with an old friend!
The one thing mightier than route 25, is a DG post when on top form.... like today, as a prime example!
"Eight" to "two hundred and two" is "acht" bis "zweihundertzwei" in german. Looks convincing, but "zweiundzwanzig" and "zwölf" would follow :)
Of course prefixed routes need to be disqualified as the prefixes would spoil the fun.
Buses. East London. Forever.
One might argue that, talking about London bus routes, the regular formation of numerals is less common than the one used in iBus announcements. Of course, eight would remain at the start, but the 202 would lose its final position to the 222.
German runs from 8 to 12, as has been observed (as long as there are less than 12,000 in the series). French runs from 100 to 23.
A pleasing return of bus stop M!
The 18 to Sudbury was the one to look out for when crossing the road against the lights.
Nice post - I enjoy your walks/rides through London but it depresses me to see in your photos the explosion of identikit high-density housing (flats) everywhere, particularly in the East End - they are not really homes just places to exist. Cheap, pile 'em high exploitation; rabbit hutches for the unproductive masses. I have lived in London 30 years and I no longer recognise the city I started work in.

The blue plaques and historical features you so often write about will be removed soon for fear of offending newer residents. All your careful notation of historical links is likely to become irrelevant as everything is renamed/cancelled but thank you for your efforts in trying to capture the history of London before it is rewritten. Enjoyed your posts, all of them not just the bus route ones!

Strange but wonderful how Bus Stop M has become so beloved by DG readers. I confess that I gave a little cheer when I saw this blogpost coming up. Thought I was an idiot; but it turns out I was in good company.
