Well, I suppose we'll have to spend the rest of this year getting to know our neighbourhood a bit better at the weekends instead.

I was reading last evening that these closures will also clash with one of the major events being staged at the 02 Arena adjacent to North Greenwich station, perhaps all the Michael Jackson fans will end up having to Moon Walk all the way home.

I don't hugely object to the closures as there is the DLR as an alternative.

However, I wish the DLR would improve their service when the Jubilee Line is closed, as the trains are PACKED, and the platforms at Bank become almost dangerously crowded at times.

With friends in Stanmore and my parents in Queensbury, I don't even bother with the Jubilee line anymore. Instead, I've become an expert at the buses from Harrow, Edgware and Golders Green.

make the most of Saturday 29th August, because that's the only weekend-day during the next six months when the entire Jubilee line will be running normally
I'll open the betting on a signal failure that weekend... ten pounds at 2-to-1.

However, I wish the DLR would improve their service when the Jubilee Line is closed

Ha. Yes but here comes the problem. They can't improve the DLR service without junction improvements, signalling improvements and building longer platforms for longer trains - which means closing the DLR at weekends !

All together now. "There's a hole in my bucket ... Well fix it .... But how shall I fix it ?" etc. etc.

{small}Bikes don't stop working at weekends{/small}

This is the perfect opportunity to re-discover the bicycle as the ideal form of transport!

100 years ago the invention of the bicycle caused a good deal of social upheaval because suddenly there was a cheap alternative to the horse. People could travel to new stores and businesses.

The bicycle is inexpensive, efficient, green and it's great exercise. The perfect way to commute.

But not through the Blackwall Tunnel.

I had to end up avoiding the Victoria line today because Bob Crow felt like staging another strike just to flex his muscles. Therefore I feel for anyone who will have to avoid the Jubilee line and its seemingly endless weekend engineering work for the next six months.

The line closures would be tolerable if rail replacement service were adequate...which it is not. Now that the tourists are back in town it is even more intolerable.

Well I suppose it has to be done at some point. As long as they get on with it and don't lean on the shovels too much.
