Interestingly (?) all the old Victorian cemeteries (Kensal Green etc) have a non-conformist section.

Museum of Methodism. Been there, done that! The curator was a Muslim lady.

nope have done Wesley's Chapel as well. Was awhile ago though.

Oh look, Wesley's Chapel and the Museum of Methodism are on Songs of Praise tonight. I always knew my blog was cutting edge.

dg watches "Songs of Praise"?!! Having a dull afternoon?

I prefer this version

I seem to remember viting the Museum of Methodism & Wesley's House about 15 years ago. So that makes 3 readers who have also visited...

And of course, "Hark the herald angels sing" was not written by Wesley (probably by the proprietors of Hymns Ancient and Very Ancient). He wrote "Hark how all the welkin rings 'Glory to the King of Kings'"

Nope, I've done the Museum of Methodism as well. There was a portrait of one of my ancestors looking Stern that frightened me half to death.

Apart from the museum, another point of interest in Wesley's Chapel is the Gents toilets. No, really....there are signs alerting you to their specialness and, of course, their location just south of the chapel. I was there today, and followed the signs to what appears to be one of the most complete and best-preserved sets of original Victorian gentlemen's public toilets in London - all marble and wood, and (when I was there) totally unattended. I was quite amazed, and only a little sad that, at that moment, I actually had no urge at all to use them. But I do recommend you visit. If you're a guy. No idea if the Ladies is similarly impressive. Perhaps a female reader could investigate and let us know?
