Fish Islands best bit is me, and you have not even given me a mention.

"The Poplar branch of the North London Railway sliced through Bow in 1850", surely?

I've often said to FIS(above), generally after visiting him on 'the Island', that to plop a DLR station onto the bridge over Wick Lane would do wonders for the area - A bit close to Bow Road & Pudding Mill, but let's be honest, the DLR is only a glorified tramway anyway (what in German is termed a 'Stadtbahn'), something between a tram and a real metro.

I looked at that said pink block when it was first built. Apart from the fact that the flats were gorgeous and spacious, there was nothing else going for it - impossible to access buses and Hackney Wick was the wrong side of the canal - they hadn't completed the footbridge yet.

I think I was happier in Stratford.

Please, not more unused DLR stops between Bow Road and Stratford!

Thanks for this - I think you may have inspired me to get on a number 8 sometime and have a look round myself.

dg,I am a bit confused by the 2005 link.

417, the pink block had indeed gone up in 2005. The 2002 design page is still here The 2005 document you quote seems to refer to refusal of a 20 22 and 24 (whew!) storey development which was refused, confusingly known as 417.

Permission for the development at 419 was in Feb 2007, as here. I think the 2005 tower blocks were planned for the bend in the road north of 417. (an old timer told me there was once a pub there). The numbering is formerly that of Old Ford Road.

The planning application for 417 is from 2002 and was decided March 2004 and is found here

For some reason, all the links have been chopped. They are all on this page

Cheers Felix. I did think that 417 ought to be a bit older than 2005. I've tweaked the text in today's post to fit.

Ah, there's nothing like nosing round planning requests.

There's a lovely place on Roach Road called Counter Cafe.

Old cinema seats to sit on and urinals filled with plants!
