LLDC are, rather belatedly, seeming to come round to the fact that a large park being so vehicle dominated perhaps isn't very good for sustainability. See also their recent announcement that they're going to spend £25m on improving walking and cycling infrastructure - a sum which would have no doubt been a lot lower if they'd designed it more sensibly in the first place.
The Olympic legacy has many positives - notably the huge improvements to services through Stratford station.
But the way the post Olympic infrastructure around the E20 site has been built in a car centric way - with miserable provision for safe cycle routes - it's a huge black mark, and totally out of step with what London needs.
Why is London getting new bridges?
To get to the other side

Yet the trees can be removed using specialist equipment and replanted elsewhere. The Dutch do it all the time. They invented a special tree removal attachment that cuts out a huge cone containing the rootball of the tree.
The area is such a dump. It was a 'dump' before but I much preferred it. Far more character. The Olympic legacy is a nightmare and the planners think they're creating some fantastic London location. Bring back Marshgate Hill!
Oh the poor trees. I do hope "removed" means Andrew Jarman's example and not DG's, but I fear otherwise.
I wonder if we’ll ever get access to the path along Waterworks River. It’s had ‘temporary’ barriers on it for years.
Bridge not yet closed.

However six of the ten trees have been felled, sawn into pieces and are being fed into the back of a wood chipper.
...there should be a law that for every tree felled ten should be planted.
It is a shame to see a tree cut down before it gets much of a start (the typical life of an alder is around 60 years, and a birch around 100 years) but some new trees seem to have been planted near the new footbridge so perhaps all is not too bad.
On a related note, are there any updates regarding the closed section of the Greenway? There was a sign suggesting that it would reopen in April but (perhaps unsurprisingly) things have gone quiet.
I wondered what was going on here when I noticed the 339 consultation. I personally think Monier Road is too narrow for a bus route, and it's a poor decision taking the route away from the southern part of Hackney Wick. They even brought a new bus for the route to cater for the increased journey time of its reroute behind the Stadium at the beginning of this year, just for them change the routing again with a shortened running time.

I don't quite see the point in building this road bridge, regardless of planning permissions. What's wrong with traffic using Carpenters Road, the A12 or Stratford High Street for getting from A to B. It's not as if Carpenters Road and White Post Lane are overloaded with vehicles yet.

And you'd think having the footbridge would make the area more enticing for buyers, as the 'former bridge' does make the area quite nice in general for a nice stroll.
Reminds me of the poignant "I used to be a tree" written in marker pen on a tree stump beside the canal around there.
Re-reading this post, I've just noticed the appalling English on the sign about the closure of the bridge (as shown in the third picture).
Hey there DG - you're probably already aware, but just in case, the new road bridge is now installed from Fish Island to the Olympic Park. Huge crane put it in place over the weekend.
naturally not ready for cars to drive over just yet but now spanning the river
cheers
Michael
