"Baby son," I thought... more like grandson...

And then I checked.

Gosh, there's more to the woman than meets the eye after all.

Clearly I have less than zero interest in sources of 'celebrity' gossip.
I did a Google search to find out who Mary Portas is, apparently she has appeared in a few television shows about shopping. Do not watch TV shows so another programme I won't be seeing.
I think street markets have lost customers to shops like Poundland and 99p stores.
Am I the only person in the world who thinks that Mary does up fantastically interesting and eclectic, albeit unprofitable, shops that I'd love to have a poke around in, and cookie cuts them to a flashy, blingy, yuppie mold that oozes faux sexuality, and in which I'd not be seen dead?
I don't keep up with the music of today, but shouldn't that be Justin Timberlake?
If he has a musical brother, Jason, I stand corrected! :)
dg writes. I stand corrected, ta.
John - considering you don't watch TV you seem to forget that there is a world beyond TV!

Mary Portas, whatever you may think of her, had achieved more in retail by the age of 30 than most people do in a liftetime.
Mickey's sweets? http://londondailyphoto.blogspot.co.uk/2006/09/dahn-roman.html was last time I saw(Mrs) Mickey - anything like the person there now? You were right, then
OK, so there was no Woolworths photo, but that was a packed hour of television. And all very carefully edited to suggest Mary had enabled a real change to Roman Road Market.

But anyone turning up to experience the reality this weekend may be disappointed. Apart from a couple of surviving street food stalls, the upgraded buzz shown in the programme is no longer there.
Towards the end of the programme Mary was wearing an odd coat with one massively furry arm, made her look a bit like a fiddler crab.
Jeanette really wasn't open to change was she!
I think there was a shot of Woolworths because I remember thinking "good ol' Woolies"- sure I wasn't hallucinating DG.
That was Woolworths in Margate.
I have a photo of that too, obviously.
