Could this be the new Bus Stop 'M' saga?
the new diamond geezer blog- a daily haiku
Post Value Hierachy: 2/10. And who uses the term "summoned" in reference to 'calling' a engineer. Anyway, as others pointed out others options are available...and it shows that one must not become dependant on one method of internet connection, should have a back-up option. Anyway must dash I been summoned to a call-out...oh wait it isn't is it?! As they say I'll keep you posted (pun intended).
Just hope you're not with BT Internet - could be a long wait.
Always best to 'escalate the complaint' to the 'complaint escalation department' I find.
Oh, hello.
@Grumpy Anon, re ‘summoned’: Is DG the sort of man who summons people? I very much doubt it. Perhaps he’s referring to someone else – someone with the authority to issue orders to staff.
Hope I'm not off-topic. :)
I hope no chickens were harmed in "The Summoning".
Perhaps the men working on the cycle way have dug up the cable
I trust no kittens were harmed.
Surely we must write today's post ourselves, collectively. So where to start...?
Yes Sarah, we could have a poll on in/out of EU? or we could have a survey on where posters are from (borough/town/country)? or we could talk about the weather?
GA Annie...the very use of the word 'summoned' in the context of a engineer being 'requested to attend' is what I 'calling-out' on. Sounds a bit pretentious in my humble opinion.
Tell you what, have a well deserved couple of days. Perhaps watch some television. I understand Coronation Street is popular.
Andrew, EastEnders surely.
'ere you 'orrible lot, wot about starting a group post on the Gospel Oak Barking line (which is going to be closed for an extended period)...
I found some stuff to start but just one here:

'Summon' is exactly the right word, as one would expect from DG. It means an order to be at a specific place ie Chez DG. 'Calling' an engineer might just mean a phone call. 'Calling out' obviously means the same as 'Summon' but hey, why use 3 syllables when 2 suffices. One of the great joys of DG's blog is his clear non waffle style but with an edge to the odd comment.
Can't wait for the post about the 'drama' behind the lack of posts.
We will see you on http://apiln.blogspot.co.uk/ as the blogger who lost his internet connection :)
I am hoping that there is nothing wrong with the internet and that DG has temporarily abandoned his very disciplined life and has thrown caution to the wind and is having even more fun then he usually has……

Perhaps the purpose of the Bow Bell is ring it in order to summon an engineer?
You know they have internet at your local library?
You might "summon" a technician/fitter/mechanic, (and they would probably be more use in the present context) but surely not a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
Am I the only person to think that dg's summoning of an engineer is a dig at the sort of notices one finds when the photocopier's broken inflating both the power of the summoner and the status of the summoned, because it sounds better than 'we've asked someone to come and repair it but we don't know when they'll be free or if they'll be able to fix it, but hell, at least it looks like we've done something decisive and powerful'

Perhaps that is what today's post is about.
Actually, I think this is an experiment to see what we do in dg's absence. Will it be chaos, or will some sort of coherent anarchist cooperative emerge? After all, as others have pointed out, dg could find a way to post if he really wanted - he's posted from all sorts of broadband-less places in the past...
C'mon everybody...for one day only: let your hair down, and let's have an "off-topic" party!!
I thought calling out meant inviting someone to a duel...
Just say the word and we'll all email/call/name-and-shame-on-facebook your internet company to get it sorted quicker!!
Took nearly a week for BT to fix my connection in E3. No compensation offered either. Lousy download speed too with copper wires from Mile End exchange.
REVEALED: The problem was caused during works to replace the old OFF-TOPIC KLAXON at DG Towers with a new one...
Anyone got any good kitten stories?
Of course other means of connecting to the internet are available: as evidenced by the messages DG has put up. But either he cannot use them for a full post, or he could but has chosen not to. Either way I am sure that full subscription refunds can be claimed.

(I did like the new klaxon picture).
I understand Coronation Street is poor, and EastEnders not much better. Could someone knock out a GOBLIN safari before the closure please? Sorry I'm busy/ too far away.

Gerry I'm enjoying the new OTK pic too. Thanks.
Use the wifi hotspot feature of your smartphone? Being in the middle of London you will probably get decent speeds. I used to live in a broadband not spot in zone 2 and used to do that when my connection would go down (which was often). Was always faster than the 2MBps i could get out of the phoneline
dg you have my sympathy. Hope you don't get stuck in blame shifting hell.
Take laptop. Walk 90 seconds down road to McDonalds Bow Flyover. They have free wifi. You don't bave to buy/eat anything.
Yes Geofftech...think DG and most of us already know that can get 'free' wifi in lots of places...even the humble library; remember that place which has books to read.
We should all be worried. Maybe DG will find it a breath of fresh air and start to like not having to write a post every day.
@Anders @Sarah "will some sort of coherent anarchist cooperative emerge?"

Some people believed DG was already a Gestalt entity - how could one person manage to do a job, get to all those interesting places, and find time to write about it all?

But if DG is indeed "Der Gestalt", all of them must have been relying on the same broadband connection.
As today we have what my kids when teenagers would have called a "free gaff", there should be a reward for the most unlikely topic for a DG post.
How about Mourinho's chances of winning the league in his first season at Manchester United?
I don't get particularly het up about Off-Topics but I really admire the new OTK made by Gerry. I should be able to hear that now from where I live in mid-Essex. Give it a toot now to test it out.
@ Herbof

Apologies to anyone who can remember the real thing...

Fortunately it was before my time but wow, it's so scarily authentic that it really sends s-h-i-v-e-r-s down my spine !
I'm currently in Bhutan 5 hours ahead of bst. I was quite upset when there was no DG blog by 08:00 bst yesterday
Could of at least posted some pictures...instead of being all grumpy because internet connection not working at home. Don't have to be kittens...but that would at least be funny!
What terrible luck, on the day TFL add the trams and yet another ugly fare zone onto the tube map
I was sorry to hear about your sad loss (of connection). Get well (connected) soon.
What is of 'interest' is how many comments a 'non-post' is getting!
There really seem to be no fitters or technicians left in the world and everything needs the attention of an engineer. Timbo, as a Fellow of the Inst. Engineering & Technology it fair winds me up.
It's verbal inflation. Just like lecturers have all turned into professors, chiropractors into doctors, and shop assistants into assistant managers. A new title is cheaper than a pay rise.
This is quite wonderful; I'm sure DG will be pleased. I am though still trying to get over yesterday's post starting with that new-fangled use of the word "so" at the beginning of a sentence.
@Gerry would you like to post an audio clip of the "All Clear" when DG is back?
I think DG's local library is not a library, but an Idea Store.
@Jonathan D: an Imagineum, shurely?
