Somewhere I've only ever driven past en route to Wentworth GC, so thank you for the recommendations.
I went there to see the Totem pole when it was a new attraction. Not been back since. I remember the long walk from the station.
As you say, Virginia Water station is some distance from the eponymous lake, but are there no longer any buses along the A30, passing the entrance to the park nearest the lake? (Staines-Egham- Sunningdale)
Thankyou for asking Timbo. The 500 bus runs past the entrance to the park. It runs five times on weekdays and twice on Saturdays. The service is run by Dicksons Travel.

I have found a video. This is exciting.

The area around the main entrance gets rather busy on sunny weekends, but is quiet during the week. The rest of the park is always quiet - come mid-week and it can feel like you have the park to yourself. Well worth a visit.
Yes indeed. I really must visit Virginia Water sometime!

Thanks for the reminder!
Nice photos.
Should I be making a comment about this post: it's not compulsory!
If you are going to the Saville Garden (free in December) or the Saville Garden/ Obelisk Pond entrance to the park then the 2 Per hour 441 (Abellio Surrey) bus Heathrow-Staines-Englefield Green may suit.

Finish with a 15 minute walk along a country lane, mostly no footpath.

Once in the Park the Valley Garden and Totem Pole are nearer and in the Spring this is the way to the Rhododendron Walk.
I went to university at nearby Royal Holloway; this was always a favourite place to come for a walk or a lazy afternoon with a frisbee. Going round the western end of the lake towards the end of the day gives some wonderful views.
