Never forget.
The Royal British Legion's main partners - BAE Systems and Lockheed Martin.

This is like Herod sponsoring Children In Need.

Armistice Day is now just another corporate shindig.

Disgusting.
Did anyone refuse their 'prize'?
No, I thought not.

Truly Sickening.
I would have though that on the 11th day they would have guaranteed peace for evermore... @@
The only way to win is not to play.

Lest we forget.
Lest we forget [the brands]
Whoever thought that this was a good idea should be sacked from TFL.
DISGUSTING.
Ugh. Shallow, shallow, shallow.
I had hoped Canada (Buxton) Water was a tacky one-off, but it seems TfL are now firmly on the slippery slope.
Comes to something when people have to be persuaded to give to good causes by the promise of such prizes, or five seconds of fame on TV givathons such as Children in Need.

Then TfL goes and encourages them.

Disgusted!
Some years ago SWT ran some of their trains in advertising colours, including one in support of the British Legion, whose Poppy factory is at Richmond, on their patch.

Unfortunately, the designers had not thought about the rather unfortunate visual effect created by opening the doors. The first time she saw it, my wife exploded into giggles.
'Lest we forget' - always puts me in a subjunctive mood...
I was at Buckingham palace this morning, and I thought they would do something different when changing guards. Unfortunately it's not the case.
Thank you for your blog DG, and thanks to those who have commented.
I thought it was just me.
This year the poppy appeal has been completely hijacked by corporate greed and shallow fashionistas. When I was a child, just after the war, poppies came in two kinds. A paper one on a wire with a simple black centre and a "silk" one, still on a wire but with a more elaborate and realistic centre. You were expected to give more for the fancy poppy.
They stopped this practice because it was felt to be wrong. "I have given more than you".
Now one sees poppies made up as jewellery.
I could cry.

Proof – if any were needed – that working in marketing can destroy normal human responses.
And just for commenter E14 @ 12:49pm, I had a wonderful Latin teacher who taught me to love the subjunctive. “Ne obliviscamur” is engraved in my memory.
Someone in the press was enthusing about their fancy metal jewellery poppy, and how they can wear it every year. So do the jewellery ones mean

"I didn't contribute to the poppy appeal this year"
The British Legion ended its three week Remembrance commemoration yesterday.

TfL are still running a poppy raffle for "a snowboard/ski beginner’s lesson for two thanks to @SnozoneMK" and "a mixology class with @ZebranoBars".
