I'm not sure that I want to understand Queen Victoria that much. But yes, she, and her then-subjects, are a very important part of our history, so perhaps one should. But I think I will take your hint and avoid busy periods, meanwhile making do with your pictures (for which thanks are due).
With it being school holidays this week, I'm sure Osborne House will be extra busy (an obvious place to visit if on the IoW for a week)

In addition, I'm sure the success of the ITV Victoria series has given anything Queen Victoria related an extra boost!
I can't quite figure out whether you actually enjoyed the place or not, despite the irritating younger generation. I can't say I liked it, too fussy (and dare I say, Victorian) for me. But you're right about increasing understanding.

I do wonder about EH's description of it being her "favourite" place - where does that leave Balmoral? At least subsequent generations seem to appreciate it more.
£17.20?!?

I remember it being lovely when I visited as a teenager. I certainly coveted the Swiss Chalet!
I am not sure what you mean by a 'natural' colour for stucco. Most stucco is now painted in brilliant white gloss, but historically it would have been painted to imitate Bath stone, so the colour of Osborne House is much more historically authentic for stucco than the white we are used to.
Yeah, I remember Dover Castle. I walked up the hill, saw the whopping £20 price tag and turned around. I might be considered as cheap. LOL

I'm amazed nobody has brought up the cost of ferries to the IOW...whoops I just did, but compared to the good old days, they always seem very high now.

dg writes: That's because we've discussed ferries a lot over the last couple of days.
IMHO the cost of ferries are quite reasonable. I only visited IoW because I wanted to go by Hovercraft. It was the highlight of the whole trip.
Wait... when I was there 2 years ago they said photography inside was prohibited... why could you do that?
