I grew up on the Barnet branch of the Northern line and was always fascinated by Mill Hill East but never actually bothered to go there. I'm grateful that you're more curious and less indolent than I was

And what a joy it would have been to have the Krishna temple at Aldenham served by the Northern Line going all the way to Bushey Heath. I reckon the Northern Line could do with a little bit more colour sometimes, especially during Diwali.

Ooh, that (fabulous) video by Jay seems to have been extended since I first saw it. Excellent.

The Northern Line (between Woodside Park and Totteridge & Whetstone) runs, in a cutting, at the bottom of my garden, and behind that, in a green space called Whetstone Stray (sounds like something from a Stephen King book), is the Dollis Brook.

You may wander alongside the Brook whilst the Stray changes name and post code, until the Dollis Brook becomes the River Brent, and empties into the Welsh Harp.

You can pick it up the other side of the Welsh Harp, and follow it, so I believe, until it joins the Thames at Brentford.

I regularly used to walk my dogs from Brent Bridge, at the border of Golders Green and Hendon, to Finchley, via Mill Hill East, by the Brook, and most enjoyable it was.

Unfortunately it's not all mobility scooter/wheelchair friendly ): .

The nature reserve runs behind my parents house!
Apparently mum used to lift me up to wave at the goods trains when I was a baby, but all I remember is that it was my personal playground in the 70s when me and my mates would build camps in the undergrowth and explore the length from Bunns Lane to Edgware.
There was direct access under Deans Lane back then. I think the only way to follow it now is through the park at the bottom of West Way and then through the alley (which used to always have a heavenly smaell of baking bread coming from it) into Station Rd.

I will, one day, walk the Dollis Brook and report back on that too. But not yet.

DG did walk from Mill Hill East to Edgware one day: http://diamondgeezer.blogspot.co.uk/2013/10/mill-hill-east-to-copthall.html

Still waiting for the Dollis Brook, I think :)
