Many moons ago my wife was an England footballer and the old fools at the FA ignored her and her pals.
She largely paid her own way and endured much derision until she played against the blokes taking the piss.
My daughter is now involved and I am so proud of them both.
I think it's great that this is a big day for many people and hope the girls do the biz.

It’s a shame the All Ireland final overlapped a bit but that turned into a bit of a procession for Kerry in the end anyway so I turned over 20 minutes before that finished. I fear that we may be another Spain goal away from this becoming likewise.

Huge congratulations Lionesses. Spain probably the better team on the night but sometimes luck is also critical. Some fairly cynical dives by the Spanish as well which makes the win even sweeter.

Well played to all concerned. Women's football has become skillful, credible, competitive, and a really enjoyable sport. Unlike the men's game it's largely devoid of on pitch cynicism, and the players are fantastic role models.

I was at the Oval, watching Surrey Women win the Vitality Blast trophy. Timing was perfect, as the presentation ceremony finished just as the Euro penalties commenced. Best of both worlds, and winners all round.
