26. It is glorious isn’t it. And such a contrast from much of the rest of the Borough.
12: School children on buses in Tunbridge Wells are much better behaved than we were in the mid 1950s in Falmouth. But they are noisy.

27: Warmest day; in Swanley's rather drear shopping centre I passed a lady in a bra and shorts going into Asda.
3. Great shot there DG.
3. What a waste. Is no part of the Crossrail route ready enough to use? If not, perhaps the trains could be redeployed elsewhere on the network, rather than sitting idle in a depot for a year.
11. The Idea Stores are changing their software this month. Everyone is getting items for longer than 21 days, including DVDs.
24. How many people in the cab of that 1938 stock?
27. The ice cream van that lives on our street has been hibernating all winter .... It went out yesterday on its first trip of the year, surely a week too late.
24. There were only three people in the cab. The picture is deceptive as the door to the cab was open for the entire journey so you can actually see some of the passengers through the door. Those of us lucky enough to be in the front car could walk up and take pictures en route. Fantastic! Go over and look at the pictures from Ianvisits.co.uk of the journey.
27. Topless sunbathing?
28: its these observations and wry comments that make your blog so good. I may go in to my local Pizza the Hut to savour the atmosphere of the 90's. Probably that's when I last went to one !
3 - perhaps it'll be like wine, leaving them to mature in the sidings will improve them in some way.
3. Meanwhile, the new trains for the GOBLIN slip later and later, in turn delaying the trains for the Liverpool St Overground. And the New Moorgate trains are still not arriving...
13. Oxford Street :)))) Hahaha...
1 Wilco IS the new Woolwowrths, it even has the pick n mix. but really you’re meant to buy everything from Amazon these days

3 #PurpleTrain. excellent.
16: Is 'Kings's Cross' an attempt to anger pedants on both sides of the apostrophe debate?

dg writes: Updated, thanks.
3. Some of the purple trains are being used on those parts of the network which are not new-build: Liverpool Street (high level) to Shenfield and Paddington (High level) to Hayes & Harlington.

Sadly, they are far too long to be used on the Goblin
1) Boots, Superdrug, Poundland

dg writes: I tried Boots. Nothing.
14. I don't think that even pre-gentrification you could expect to see much "authentic local provenance" in Brixton's Market Row.
Re Sat.2nd and Mon.4th.
Looking at those comments I would think you would be wise to steer clear of betting shops,DG. 😉
1. I've recently had difficulty finding some batteries. Perhaps people are stocking up for some upcoming catastrophe.

13. It has red buses in it, it must be London.
27. Joho, I strongly suspect it was male torsoes being bared.
6. Well that's a bit random! Did you ever find out what it was all about?

15. Says it all really!

24. Doesn't the 1930s train look tiny in comparison to the man standing beside it - never mind modern train!
24: You know you still can take trains as small as these, you just need to pick the right line. This train looked small only because it's running on a big line.
8: It does have a spectacular key change, though.
1. I would have thought Tesco was your nearest supplier - usually placed exactly where you forget to look!
The battery in my mouse expired a couple of days ago and I thought I had this covered. The multi-pack of Maplin batteries I'd squirreled away were completely useless, dead and flat.
28. Mmm, beetroot cubes.
1 It pays to shop around for batteries, coin cells especially. Supermarkets are generally a rip-off, although there's the occasional reduction. Pound shop coin cells are OK for short term use.

Wilko is usually a better place to go, but again check prices. However, given that my local Wilko and others I've been in usually have severe stock problems, the space where the battery should be is probably blank!

Robert Dyas are usually the best place - a variety of popular coin cells available and the large packs (24?) of AAA and AA Energiser batteries are usually half price.packs.

@B That's really a good description of Maplin in its later years :-)
3. That's what i call frozen assets

4. My favourite Olivia Colman moment - never a truer word said.

8. Definitely won't win - one can tell at the time.

14. Brixton Market Row has new owners saying suspiciously PRy things like "Using the rich and diverse history of the Market as a foundation, Hondo wants to ensure that the Market is equipped for the present day – as the centre for Brixton community and a beacon to visitors from across our city."

17. I am very curious as to how many people responded to the invitation to be a +1

24. My favourite Tube train - plush sprung horsehair padded seats and all timber floors and trims. I'm always amazed to see a clean and gleaming one. When I rode them, they were pretty dilapidated and very grimy - a little like this
Days which have not inspired comment:
5 7 9 10 18 19 21 22 23 25

(but the majority have, cheers!)

That pre-Worboys sign looks wrong? Not sure what the typeface is but is this a replica?

dg writes: Alas yes.
