The british spelling is doughnut. Americans spell it as donut. British doughnuts, unlike American ones, don't have holes but do have jam - which for some reason the Americans call jelly and so Americans will refer to a jelly doughnut, apparently.
Which is better is a manner of preference - or national allegiance.
