Why is the Redeemed Christian Church Of God providing a sanctuary for winners? I would’ve thought the losers would need sanctuaries more!
...and that's why I come to this blog each day.

The "Tasty Kebab Traditional Fish Bar" gets an honourable mention from me.
that museum of neoliberalism looks ... good? amusing? counterproductive?
All that *and* an accordian shop!
Now, if only it were located right next to the British Museum or the Science Museum, so that people would notice...
Of course DG doesn’t havd to buy it. The shop is in my opinion a "take that" at those who still stubbornly believes Thatcherism after seeing its atrocities unleashed upon them in full force.
Yes the demise of the suburban pub. Off the top of my head DG, I'm pretty certain that 20 years ago you would have counted 20 pubs along the A20. Memory isn't what it was. I have included both the Fat Walrus (Rosemary Branch) and the Amersham Arms - as the top end of the A20 is a one way system. And I've gone as far as the Junction with Sidcup Road and Green Lane. Located on on this spot was 'Fiveways' (demolished and now a Premier Inn).

So yes, a fond remembrance of some - Angel, Man of Kent, The Roebuck, The Woodman, New Tigers Head and the Dutch House, scenes of many a boozy evening in my youth.

As much as I like the Neoliberalism museum, It's not like neoliberalism is old history! It'll still be dictating our lives long after I'm gone. So to a younger generation - good luck with that!
Some misunderstanding here, I think. Of course, I don't know the exact political standpoint of these artists. If they are old school communists, believing that money has no role, and who gets what should be decided by a central committee, then a gift shop might be somewhat out of place. But if they believe, as I do, that cash exchanges have their place, but businesses should be much more firmly regulated in the interests of the whole community, then ther is no need whatever for double takes.
The B2020 is still there. I'm not sure whether it's worth the journey to Seven oaks.
Judging by their website, Allodi is just the place I need, to give my two beloved but elderly accordions their quinquennial service.
Bloody hell, it's almost on my way to Sainsbury's. I'll make sure to head off eastwards from the Lee Green bus stop for a quick visit next time. Looks a blast.
The last 2020 post? It should be 20 days of 2020-themed posts :) But thanks all the same!
Bucketmouth is such a depressingly apt name for a fast food outlet.
Loved the New Tiger's Head at Lee. Long closed now, still there and rotting away (the pub and me both!)
I asked my scouty daughter, granddaughter and son in law about the Scout sponsorship. And it's nothing like as insidious as you think. Companies sponsor events and the cost of making the badges, both of which are expensive. The whole ethos of Scouts is to keep costs affordable so that children are not excluded from activities by family circumstances, so this help is critical.

In addition to sponsorship many companies, especially those supplying activity clothing and equipment, give Scouts (children, leaders and groups) give discounts. I'm told Go Outdoors are particularly generous. Given that there are many Scouts and ex-Scouts working in these companies I guess it's not surprising.

And I can assure you DG from first hand knowledge that the children are not being propagandised.
The current selection of Cub/Beaver badges perhaps isn't excessively sponsored.

A previous lot, on display in the museum, were astonishingly corporate (see here)
...including badges sponsored by Comet, Weetabix, Wall's, Shrek The Musical, Dettol, Savlon, Flora, Legoland, Sodexo, Asda, Woolworths, Esso, British Gas, Jet, Superdrug, B&Q, BT, BNFL, even Bounty paper towels.

Yes, thanks, exactly that sort of thing.

"The Scout Association has forged an extremely exciting new partnership with the smash hit West End show, Shrek the Musical.

Shrek, Donkey and a host of fairytale friends are the new sponsors of the Cub Entertainer Activity Badge. A set of Shrektacular resources are currently being produced, which will give Cubs the chance to entertain each other, as well as unleashing their creativity."

Neoliberalism at its finest.
I question whether neoliberalism really started in 1947.
Two hundred years ago business freedoms were at a max, with no government intervention. Ask the kids being sent up chimneys, and the workers in the cotton mills aka 'dark satanic mills' in England.
The mills were wonderful buildings though, and it is always a joy to visit them in these more enlightened times now.
200 years ago, it was just good old fashioned first-wave laissez-faire liberalism. It only became “neo” in the 20th century when it pushed back against the prevailing Keynesian interventionist orthodoxy. And eventually the pendulum will swing back again - indeed it may be doing so already.
