I have a cousin born on Feb 29, they just celebrate their birthday on the 28th in the non leap year

I've never really got this "and a half" with ages, let alone monthiversary which apparently is now a thing.

A person born on one day will be a year older 365.25 days later, when the earth is at the same point in its orbit around the sun. So it makes sense for a person lucky enough to be born on the 29th of February in one year to celebrate the anniversary of their birth on the last day of February each subsequent year until there is another 29 February.
Similarly, a person born on one day of a month will be half a year older 182.625 days later. If they were born on the 31st, that point might come around on the 31st of another month. Or not. |

…but that’s not how it works. Those of us born on March 9th celebrate our half birthday on September 9th, whereas the 182.625 rule says it should be a day earlier on the 8th. Ditto those born on January 1st celebrate on July 1st, whereas it should be a day later on the 2nd.
