I *could* say "I remember when...", but I won't.

I won't risk looking at that pdf...I suspect I'd be stuck perusing it all day.

Interesting snippets though.

I object to the fact that the eggs used in the statistics are clearly not free range, at that price.

In 1971 a pint of beer cost 3 times more than a pint of milk, now it costs 7 times more. I'm not sure whether to weep into my pint or start drinking milk.

Interesting stuff, one day I may read the whole pdf...

When I were a lad in '71 you could buy a dozen eggs, a pint of milk, a loaf, 20 cigarettes, a pint beer and still have change from a quid. Those were the days

Well of course it's all lies, damned lies, ain't it. I have a major beef with the population estimates which I estimate to be way off. Nevertheless, your post promted me to have a quick look at this increasingly useless piece of work. Not finding key data (as is usual these days) I had to go searching for it. So, there are over 34 million registered vehicles in the uk and a population of c. 62 million - not counting the 1.39 million Poles who are here. Something doesn't add up in my mind.

I find it interesting that the population steadily grew by about one million until the 21st century and now it is expected to increase by 4 million over the next few deacades! That's a lot of people to squeeze onto one small island!

If it's true that the UK will have a population of 71 million in 2031, that'll mean that, with a land area of roughly 95,000 square miles, the UK will have a population density of almost 750 people per square mile. Already, our population density is over 647 people per square mile. By comparison, the population density for the US is about 82 people per square mile, while for France it is 290 people per square mile, and for Canada the figure is 8 people per square mile.

I've also got no doubt most of the population in 2031 will be concentrated in the south-east of England, mainly in London and the Home Counties, just as it is now.

We really are an overcrowded little island, aren't we?

I ask merely for information, but what is "up to date" about 2007?
