And now is the time for TfL to bite the bullet on the name of the Northern Line(s). Use this extension to choose which service pattern can retain the name, and which should be rebranded.
But why post this at 07.12?
EXTRA NERD FACT:

That first Battersea to Kennington train will then reverse the ‘wrong way’ around the Kennington loop to then form the Kennington to Battersea service.
Looking forward to a spate of attempts at the fastest time to visit all 272 tube stations challenge. How much slower will it be, a minimum of 14 extra minutes I reckon, making it a 16 hour time to beat. The current record for 270 stations is 15h45m38s.

Of course, this extension will have to be a dog leg!
i hope they've remembered to update the rules of "Mornington Crescent".
Martin - look at the time of the first northbound train on a Sunday.
Exactly twice as far?
Yes but why not 05.28?
Route length = pi
Track length = 2*pi
Kennington to Nine Elms ~ 2
Conclusion: they could have constructed a circular loop from Kennington to Nine Elms instead for the same length of tunnel.

Not helpful, but perhaps nerdy.
will this reduce number of trains that i can get at colliers wood (ie leaving and terminating at morden)?
I'm assuming from your #nerdfact that before 5pm on a weekday, given 5 trains per hour off-peak and that most are going to High Barnet/Mill Hill East that the pattern will be something along the lines of:

3tph to High Barnet
1tph to Mill Hill East
1tph to Edgware?

Is the timetable actually public yet, since I can't yet seem to be able to choose Battersea Power Station station in the TfL journey planner?
Martin - Because 19th September will be a Sunday?

Andrew Biden - I believe the service to Morden will remain the same. The Battersea trains will be extensions of services currently terminating at Kennington.

Ken - How far is Battersea from Sloane Square?
If DG has sent out a coded invite, "meet me at BPSS to get the first ever first Sunday departure", please accept my apologies, I can't do early Sunday.
With the existing fleet of trains on the Northern Line not having much slack, they are restricted with how many trains they can send that way, but every 12 minutes is still pretty poor for a (cough) Zone 1 service.
The initial 5tph / every 12 minutes service is what it will be during the upcoming blockade of Bank station. Makes sense just to start it off that low, rather than lower it later.

After the blockade it will be 10tph / every 6 minutes.
I hadn't realised this is so close to opening. Might push myself to ride it in October
Geofftech has confirmed my suspicion about the first weekday train reversing the wrong way around Kennington loop. I wonder whether signalling has always allowed this. The only other way to do it would seem to reverse South down the Northbound towards Oval to reach the central siding then North crossing the Southbound Morden line.
I'm hoping to organise a trip to London next month to take a trip on the new extension. It'll also be my first time visiting London for over 19 months which is the longest I've ever been away so hopefully it will feel good to be back.
How definite is the September 19th date? I have searched in vain for any reference to this assumption other than your blog.

Trains could only traverse the Kennington Loop clockwise until the new signalling was installed. The early and late Battersea - Kennington - Battersea shuttles will be double-staffed to ensure quick reversals in Kennington platforms 1 & 2. The first two person train crewing on LU (aside for special events) since the 1959 Tube Stock were withdrawn in 2000. They will not carry passengers through the loop during these moves.
The opening might be put back by 2 weeks
There was often a two person crew when taking trains out of the sidings at Edgware Road after 2000.
Had an email from TFL confirming the opening date as 20 September.

A day later then. The press release says the time of the first train is to be confirmed later, suggesting it won't be 05:28
