The news that Boris Johnson is to be London Mayor, has put a feeling of gloom over my Bank Holiday weekend.

Seen it all before when Ken became leader of the GLC in 1981. It soon passed.
This may help to jog a few memories...
And, I'd suggest that what Colin in Thailand says explains why the BNP now have a seat. The frustration of many being expressed in the only way they know, despite the clear flaws in their policies, methods and values. Hopefully Boris may be able to do something about that too.

It makes me feel sick to think that Ken paid the price for fare and tax rises used to invest in London's desperately overcrowded infrastructure while Boris will be there to cut the ribbons and enjoy the acclaim as these schemes begin to come to fruition.

I think the difference between Ken and Boris is Ken cares deeply about the real London, whereas Boris cares deeply about a make-believe one.
