A slide at the orbit is a great idea, and would pull in the family crowds. Of course, those who want the orbit to be a pure form of artwork would be agast.
As it looks like a giant helter skelter I thought it already had a slide!
I obviously need to pay more attention and/or a visit to it!
The slide sounds like a good idea, though would Health and Safety allow such a thing? And would it have to be enclosed against rainy days?
A slide HAS actually been comissioned! The website http://queenelizabetholympicpark.co.uk/the-park/attractions/arcelormittal-orbit states that a Belgian artist (Carsten Höller) has been invited to create an enclosed one to open next year.

While a visit up the tower is still on my to do list and I'd be happy to walk down, there's no way I'd use the slide!
I visited toward the end of January when the TFL bus sculptures were on display. Views are okay but there's not much around this area of London to see. We saw they were starting to advertise the absailing then. I've always thought it looked like a roller coaster ride, which I guess makes sense if they make it into a slide. :) I don't think it'll bring i what they think it will unless they get the tourists. I have a feeling it's primarily Londoners viewing it once.

To my mind the orbit always looked a bit squashed, there is a view, but so what, in central London you have a view of famous landmarks, in Stratford you have a view of Stratford.
It certainly helps when the foreground view is of your local neighbourhood! I can't imagine many tourists being quite so excited by Westfield, a part-obscured stadium and the Bow Flyover.
I went up the Orbit this summer. Dismal, boring and a waste of money. Even more of a waste of money than the Dangleway, which at least takes you from one place to another even if you don't particularly want to go there.

I'd go up it if it had a slide, though.
