Happy centenary Croxley! My local station too for many a year. Jim Bradley was the station master in the late 1970s, and a family friend, so I was given the access all areas tour more than once, not that there's much else to see. And Mike Horne, the late transport author, was booking clerk here for a time - I also remember him from my childhood. Thanks for bringing back some lovely memories.

Interested to know how the over-station development was/is used. Looks like residential, hope it's not wasted space.

It was definitely residential when I was a lad, one of the London Transport rental property portfolio (just like the house I grew up in down the road). The Power family lived there and their youngest daughter was in my year at secondary school. No idea of its use now.

Brings back lots of memories. Gathering on the platform with my school mates after we had all passed to go to the Grammar School in Watford, rushing out of school in time to catch the 4.17 back to Croxley, lots of trips to London to see the sites and exhibitions, then gong off to work meetings all around the capital.

A very convincing iteration of the Sugg Rochester lantern on those heritage lighting fixtures. Difficult to see what the light source is though, even when zooming into the photo on FlickR. I suspect they will need updating soon to bring them up to contemporary efficiency standards.

In 'celebration', trains at the moment are still only going to Baker Street - if you're lucky!

All day now Cornish Cockney, according to TfL. Very fitting.

Disappointingly no centenary celebrations of any kind at Croxley station today, only a sign saying there were centenary celebrations at Watford station until 3pm.

I passed through Watford about 16:00 today and sadly didn't see anything saying the station was 100 years old today.

I thought you lived around Bow

I was at Croxley on Friday afternoon! A soggy walk through Croxley Common Moor in the rain to the trading estate on the other side to pick my car up from the repair shop.
This was my second time using the station, the first being three weeks earlier when I dropped my car off. |

At Watford yesterday, the staff member opening the gate for celebration visitors agreed with me about the stupidity of bricking up the "public" side Enquiries window at Croxley - it's almost impossible to get the attention of the staff member if help is needed. At least they left both windows at Watford...
Regarding the direct access from the car park, I've many times suggested that this could be used by simple addition of an Oyster reader and camera - many stations are non-barriered, as Croxley frequently is during staff breaks. And for wheelchair users, although not ideal, Northbound travellers could stay on a train into Watford, then back to be on the car park side... |
