I'm intrigued as to what actually happens to traffic flows around the area when the Silvertown Tunnel opens and (perhaps more importantly) when motorists have to start paying to drive through the Blackwall and Silvertown Tunnels.
How many will reduce cross river car journeys to avoid paying, or use the Rotherhithe or Tower Bridge? How many will be more keen to drive if the traffic is moving more smoothly? What proportion of drivers will use the new tunnel? Will Ikea and B&Q at North Greenwich be busier or quieter? But most crucially, will all these months of disruption at Bow Roundabout have been worth it?! There's not long till we find out! |
How long until the repair team reappears to start the whole process again?

Something tells me that TfL will work a lot faster on removing the traffic light covers at Bow roundabout than on Plaistow high street. They still can’t tell me when the final set of lights will be operational and the final arm of the pedestrian crossing reinstated a year after the works.

I still can't believe they did all this work and the cycle lane provision is still subpar at best and downright dangerous at worst. Those lights that give you a couple of seconds headstart do nothing really.
|
It's busy down there at the moment with men up stepladders fiddling with lights and men under the flyover fiddling with wires in junction boxes.

I wish the best of luck to anyone trying to avoid tolls by using the Rotherhithe tunnel. Since the introduction of the cycle lane along Lower Road, notably on the stretch between Surrey Quays station and the junction with Plough Way, the area has become a complete bottleneck for traffic at any time of the day.
|
Hope it is all finished this weekend, as Tower Hamlets have just announced a 9-day full road closure at the junction of Tredegar Road and the A12 for water main works from 10th to 18th March.
Looks as though bus 8 won’t be able to serve Bow Church or its previous temporary terminus at Fish Island. So possible diversion via Grove Road, Mile End station and Bow Road. |
The new traffic lights have finally been uncovered and the temporary lights retired.
Overnight a specialist company has brought two large 'Bridge Expansion Joint Unit' vehicles to Stratford High Street while their workmen use blowtorches on the expansion joint in the carriageway. |
