You weren't lying when you said you were booked in somewhere very special... what a treat!
Ha, what if everyone has to order Duck because that is all that is on the menu?
It sounds like you had a thoroughly enjoyable evening dg. A perfect way to celebrate such a milestone.
You made me smile and be cross too. I smiled at your post but frowned when I saw gin was only £3, considerably less than we generally paid throughout the UK earlier this year.
Fascinating. Just added to my London "must do" list.
What a wonderful post and experience that must have been. That taken with your usual eloquent descriptive was a pleasure to read.Thank you.
Coincidentally, I lunched in the House of Commons dining room yesterday. It was 5 quid cheaper than the Lords. We couldn't resist the gift shop though, and unfortunately came away with a glittery, House of Commons logo Christmas tree ornament.
Glad you enjoyed your late lunch.
I must say that looking at their menu I only found one item that I would eat.
So I will not be going there.

@Max Roberts
.....but done in three very different ways.
Do they normally open in the Christmas recess? Just wondering, given that it is the first December election in decades, if this would have been a rare opportunity to have Christmas lunch in the Houses of Parliament.
I can understand that Brussels may be a forbidden word these days - but sprouts?
".....but done in three very different ways". Turkeys rather than Ducks?
It's an interesting experience. The food wasn't bad at all, but if you go with someone that really knows their wines you can get to try some very good stuff at reasonable prices.

I couldn't help but notice all the mouse traps and bait stations positioned around the pelmets.
Wow what an experience! A bit late now to take advantage of this election period, but with general elections coming round very regularly these days, it won't be long before the next opportunity!
What a wonderful experience!
Would love to go but 1) the cost and 2) why is the veggie option always either a salad, something with goat's cheese, or both!

But mainly 1)
And having to dress up!
£19.50: Self-guided tour of Parliament
£26.50: Guided tour of Parliament*
£56.50: Guided tour plus afternoon tea

* free to UK residents on weekdays
I have numerous T-shirts (of life) but none associated with the HoP do I cherish.
Celery panna cotta? I'm all for fusion foods but mixing veggies with a dessert item is going too far!
I've eaten a few times in the Press Dining Room of the House of Lords, with a friend who was a Parliamentary reporter. The menu, and the level of security, were similar to that described here.
I worked at the Houses of Parliament for about 18 months 20 years ago, and all the restaurants and bars that I was allowed in were excellent and reasonably priced - Strangers Bar was very hard to avoid!
Ah, to have dined at Westminster on the final day of the old era.
